Source: Associated Press

Law enforcement officers in suburban Denver say a man killed his wife and then himself at a Jehovah’s Witness Kingdom Hall in Thornton. Authorities say a fire was reported at the hall around 9 a.m. before another caller told police that a man had shot a woman and then himself. Police say the two were married and were former members of the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses in Thornton. A hazmat team was also investigating suspicious devices at the hall. The names of the man and woman were not immediately released.

My son-in-law was brought up JW and it turned him against religion in general. He does believe in a vague God or as my husband does, in the Universe, but not in organized religion. He's very respectful of my daughter's beliefs and of mine also, though, and he had a wonderful discussion with my priest at our wedding reception. I have another friend who grew up JW, as did his wife, and they are pretty much the same.

There used to be a little JW who came by our house when I was a kid. He was never offended when my mother told him no thank you and always wished her a happy day when he left. We called him the "happy Witness". Mom would sometimes give him a cup of coffee to take with him on a cold day and he always wished her "the blessings of Jehovah" even though she wouldn't take any of his literature. One day my little brother looked at her weirdly and asked, "Mom, Why do they call them Joe's Witnesses?" We called them that forever after.

They never think of that, do they. It would definitely make things better for everyone.
