Report: Twitter to close Seattle offices after company stops paying rent
Source: KIRO 7 (CBS affiliate)
Twitter has reportedly stopped paying rent at its Seattle office and now faces eviction, according to the New York Times.
The Times spoke with people familiar with the matter who said janitorial and security services were cut.
The apparent shutdown of the office coincides with a layoff notice sent in November by the Employment Security Department of Washington State. Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification (WARN) notices are required in Washington when 100 or more employees will be affected by closures or layoffs.
On November 4, a notice affecting 257 Seattle Twitter employees said layoffs would start on January 4.

If the landlord was in violation, they would normally get a notice and some time to cure the violation.
Maybe they had a sweetheart handshake deal because they were Twitter ... but that is questionable because most years, Twitter lost hundreds of millions.

(2,980 posts)by firing so many workers, not paying rent... etc.. The Twitter building on San Francisco also houses the Golden Gate Regional Center, a state contracted nonprofit that serves people with developmental disabilities, and I wonder if Twitter rent has helped underwrite a less onerous rent for that agency. In other words, I worry about some of the potentially widespread (but not necessarily on the radar) ramifications of the collapse of Twitter as a previously more responsible (comparatively!) corporate player.

The financial penalties are minimal compared to their wealth and potential financial gains. And, if necessary, declare bankruptcy and let the little people pick up the pieces.

(16,922 posts)do you trust a business that can not be trusted to pay their bills?
why i never understood why small businesses would do business with trump.
If there is a risk of not getting paid you front end the terms to protect yourself.
may turn out that the best business deal you can make with either trump or eloon is to walk away and say no thank you.
let someone else get screwed
