Democrat Raúl Grijalva speaks of 'accountability for the attack on democracy'

American representatives intend to meet this week to discuss a request for the deportation of former president Jair Bolsonaro (PL), who has been in Florida since the end of 2022.

Democrat Raúl Grijalva told Folha that a good part of the party's bench supports the idea of removing the right-wing leader from the country so that he can be investigated and eventually tried for his role in the attacks against democracy in Brazil.

The idea is to ask the White House to start the process. "Bolsonaro needs to be removed from the US so that he can face the consequences in Brazil of having instigated attacks on democracy, similarly to what former President Donald Trump did in the US and which culminated [in the insurrection] in the Capitol", said Grijalva.

Two other congressmen publicly called for Bolsonaro’s deportation – Joaquín Castro and Alexandria Ocasio Cortez.

why the fuck do we have to make President Biden initiate deportation? Bolsonaro doesn't have a valid visa I would suspect. If he entered the country on a diplomatic visa then he isn't a diplomat any more. Let customs deport him.

His mismanagement of the Covid pandemic in Brazil was even more lethal than it was here, since poor folks there have little access to health care. He and TFG are rotten peas in a decaying pod. At least we can get rid of Bolsonaro and send him home to face the music, which I'm sure will be an operatic death march.

If Pres Lula's national security team establish probable cause to arrest Mr Bolsonaro and issue a warrant for his arrest, the USG may honor that request. Consequently, a Red Notice will be issued at INTERPOL.

The Attorney-General (and sometimes the USIC) double-check the quality and veracity of the extradition request, because many countries use this tactic to capture political enemies.

Following a coup attempt in Turkiye several years ago, the Erdogan government has been demanding the return of Mr Fetullah Gulen. But the Turkish government failed to provide concrete or bona fide evidence of Mr Gulen's involvement in the coup attempt, so in Pennsylvania Mr Gulen remains.
