Democrats planning to sit on all GOP select committees

Source: The Hill

House Democrats will participate in all of the various special committee investigations being teed up by GOP leaders, the Democrats’ Caucus chairman vowed on Tuesday.

“It is our intent to seat members on … every select committee, every subcommittee that the leadership on the majority side advances,” Rep. Pete Aguilar (D-Calif.) told reporters in the Capitol.

That move would mark a shift from the Republicans’ strategy in the last Congress, when GOP leaders boycotted the select committee formed to investigate the Jan. 6, 2021, attack on the U.S. Capitol — an abstention that some Republicans came to regret, since it left former President Trump without a line of defense throughout the marathon probe.

Aguilar said Democrats won’t make the same mistake this cycle, when Republicans are poised to create a series of special committees to investigate the Biden administration and other facets of federal policy, including what Republicans consider the “weaponization” of the government to target Trump and other conservatives unfairly.

The repukes boycotted the committee after Speaker Pelosi rejected their initial selections. The problem we face now is that Speaker McCarthy can do the same thing. I sometimes wish she hadn't done that.

When she rejected these members, she set precedent for what McCarthy is going to do. She should have just accepted them and continued with he J6 Committee. It wold have revealed the same information with or without them.

No, it wouldn't. The advantage of a unitary Committee is that the Hearing time could be programmed (remember the producer from ABC?) to present the Committee's findings. Having election-denial Republicans on the Committee would have diverted a large chunk to counter narratives and/or hostile questioning of public witnesses.

nb: I spoke to the J6 Committee producer last month. She thinks the Republicans will try the same model with their issues.

NO Gopers chose to be on the committee. The J6 committee would not have been so productive and professional if Gym Jordan et al would have spoiled it. You have seen how they have behaved at other hearings.

IMHO, I don't think them being on the committee would have made a lick of difference. The same information would have been reported and the final report would have been the same.

Fraction of the good work the committee shared with a huge national audience.

It was a truly stupid move that they then boycotted the J6 in an apparent fit of pique - or perhaps they did not feel they had equally-talented saboteurs on their bench.

..Jim Jordan types explain the justification for investigating Biden for influence peddling and weaponizing/politicizing the FBI/DOJ when Trump peddled influence and weaponized/politicized the entire Executive branch of the government soon as he realized he could.

It is simply, hypocrisy in action.

"Waah, I'm being canceled because I'm a racist/sexist/homophobe/xenophobe/bigot and I'm being called out on it."

"Waah, they are investigating me because I'm conservative, not because there is a treasure trove of evidence against me."

It's amazing how weak and stupid these people are.
