Legal woes grow for George Santos as another watchdog files FEC complaint

Source: Politico

The troubles keep piling up for serial prevaricator George Santos, the freshman representative whose alleged misuse of campaign funds now has another government accountability group asking the Federal Election Commission to investigate.

Accountable.US, a progressive watchdog organization, filed a complaint with the FEC on Friday, alleging the New York Republican’s campaign misused funds for personal expenses, accepted excessive contributions and filed disclosure forms late.

“With each passing day, Congressmen Santos’s rap sheet of potential crimes and outlandish lies continues to grow. The FEC has an obligation to hold him accountable — Speaker McCarthy and his MAGA majority certainly won’t, especially after gutting the Congressional Ethics Office,” Accountable.US president Kyle Herrig said in a statement.

On Monday, the Campaign Legal Center filed its own FEC complaint also accusing the Santos campaign of paying personal expenses, focusing on its suspicious disclosures showing disbursements of $199.99, a cent below the threshold for providing receipts.

Seems like fertile ground. He’s a liar but he’s a shitty crook. Brazil called, they want their thief back.

Red flags right there.

I keep all my receipts for when I buy fabrics, sewing supplies, office supplies, machine upkeep, etc.

Related to what I bought with student loan money in the mid-2010s. Just in case the IRS gets a wild hair and decides to do an audit of back taxes.

I even have the receipt for a $2 pen that I had to buy at the campus bookstore when someone stole my pencil case, and I needed a pen for note-taking in my last class of the day.

I threw NONE of that away. Everything I bought with that student loan money, I can account for.

I doubt he will resign because Republicans have no shame.

He will have to be charged by State and Federal agencies of provable FRAUD. This means proof beyond a reasonable doubt of law breaking.

The voters in the 3rd CD in New York are already lost to him. He LIED his way to Congress. He will LIE his way to stay in Congress.

I’m sure it’s a pretty simple to bulk query the rest of his colleagues for 199.99 in their FEC filings…

FEC will be of little help here I'm afraid. It adds to the information pile but the state investigators might be a better bet for action.

Once the farce that is George Santos bio is over, I expect to see a limited series about his life on a streaming channel. Santos’ deceptions far outnumber those of Frank Abagnale Jr who was played by Leo DiCaprio in Catch Me If You Can.

Serial liar and border-hardliner George Santos accepted support from an Italian caught piloting a yacht full of Chinese migrants and from his prominent restaurant-owning family.
