Republicans want Biden home visitor logs - but not Trump's

WASHINGTON (Reuters) -The Republican chairman of the House Oversight Committee on Sunday demanded visitor logs for President Joe Biden's house in Wilmington, Delaware, after classified documents were found in his office and garage.
"Without a list of individuals who have visited his residence, the American people will never know who had access to these highly sensitive documents," Representative James Comer said in a letter to White House Chief of Staff Ron Klain dated Sunday.
Republicans have sought to compare the Biden documents case, which involves material from his time as vice president, with that of former President Donald Trump, who faces a federal criminal probe of how he handled classified documents after he left the White House in 2021. But legal experts say there are stark contrasts between the two cases.
Comer said he would not seek visitor logs for Trump's Mar-a-Lago residence, where more than 100 classified documents - some of them labeled top secret - were found in an FBI search.

(43,307 posts)that would be legally subject to any congressional scrutiny without a congressional subpoena. Fat chance rethugs would even try to appear evenhanded behind that. But if by chance visitor logs do exist, maybe Jack Smith has power to subpoena them, or conduct a surprise warrant search. Otherwise, Trump would just send some bogus other set of logs, anyway.

In that case they surely have visitor logs

The president forfeited his right to live at the estate in 1993 once he turned it into a private club, a lawyer tells Palm Beach officials.

(43,307 posts)checked in? or logged in? Please link. Because no one else here has. So Mar-a-Lago is a name that applies to both the club and the private 3,000 sq ft residence that Trump does maintain there, by all accounts.
The GOP demand a lot of stuff as if it's important. They're not serious. And they don't really care that any number of people have walked into Trump's club premises without showing ID, nevermind signing some alleged log; e.g., a local teen, two Chinese nationals entered, and were caught, but non-members can still purchase entrance tickets. https://www.theguardian.com/us-news/2022/sep/20/mar-a-lago-map-security-visualized
Visitors' logs don't exist in the Bidens' home, and there's no confirmation that they exist in Trump's, either. Or even in the club. What are the ramifications for the government documents in their residences, classified or unclassified, we really can't say. But why speculate when the SC's will likely come up with the contexts of those docs' appearance, anyway. It's the rational reason for this conversation, anyway.

In general Republicans value holding on to power, self-serving monetary gain, controlling people's lives and the governance aspect is of no interest to them whatsoever.

They can already show that he lived there during the time the documents were there - since it was his home address and they were presumably there for six years.
As if they needed proof before they would insinuate treason.
What they're really hoping for is to get logs for all visitors in the hopes that some Chinese official or someone involved in one of Hunter's supposed business interests is in those logs.

That's it. Americans are nothing more than rubes or potential weapons to be manipulated for the aforementioned Republican goals.

(553 posts)Until the special council is finished up with his report. And because this is a private residence, a search warrant would be required for the phone records. No judge is going to give a warrant when The Presidents lawyers are doing their search, and immediately turning over any documents they may have. So, start pounding sand, you simpletons.

(135,697 posts)The White House says no visitor logs exist for President Bidens private residence near Wilmington, Delaware, where classified documents were found, after House Republicans called for the release of such records.
Like every President across decades of modern history, his personal residence is personal, the White House Counsels office said in a statement to numerous news outlets on Monday.
But upon taking office, President Biden restored the norm and tradition of keeping White House visitors logs, including publishing them regularly, after the previous administration ended them, it added.
The revelation comes after Rep. James Comer (R-Ky.), the chair of the House Committee on Oversight and Reform, called on the administration to release the visitor logs from the Delaware home as Republicans heats up their inquiry into Bidens handling of Obama-era classified documents.
