Trump criticizes evangelical leaders for not backing his 2024 presidential bid
Source: CNN
Trumps comments to conservative journalist David Brody in a podcast interview Monday, in which he decried the disloyalty of evangelical leaders who have withheld public support for his campaign, were the latest in a series of bewildering remarks hes made about one of the most critical voting blocs in a Republican primary.
Nobody has ever done more for Right to Life than Donald Trump. I put three Supreme Court justices, who all voted, and they got something that theyve been fighting for 64 years, for many, many years, Trump told Brody, referring to the Supreme Courts overturning of federal abortion rights in Dobbs v. Jackson Womens Health Organization decision last summer.
Theres great disloyalty in the world of politics and thats a sign of disloyalty, Trump continued, bemoaning evangelical leaders who have declined to support his latest campaign.

The majority of Christians believe in the separation of Church and State because they don't want the State getting into their business either.

We are Americans of African and European descent, Latino/a, Asian American, and Native American. We are women and men, as well as younger and older evangelical Christians. We come from a wide range of denominations, churches, and political orientations.
We believe in the unity of the body of Christ, but we acknowledge the diverse nature of a community whose faith is biblical and evangelical. And we are growing. Given the rich diversity within our unity, we call upon the political world to hear all our voices, and for the media to acknowledge that the evangelical community is quite diverse.
As evangelical Christians, we believe our hope and allegiance rests in the person of Jesus Christ, Savior of the world, and Lord of our lives. That is why no politician, party, movement, or nation can ever command our ultimate loyalty. As citizens both of the Kingdom of God and this world, we vote with humility, knowing that our favored candidates always fall short of biblical values. We recognize that despite our unity in Christ, we will inevitably disagree about which political stances come closest to the heart of God for our nation.

(10,148 posts)more and more like a fading political power so they need to find a new messiah who will use politics and the law to shut down personal and civil rights for all the people who refuse to follow their fake religious beliefs to persecute women and LGBTQ. Many evangelical leaders have become multimillionaires selling a fake gospel and they want their gravy train to continue, so they need politics to stay in the limelight.

My local (Florida) experience with evangelicals is that they are very comfortable with politicians claiming that they are "chosen."

(336 posts)A-N-Y right to life, basically he traded votes in exchange he'd nominate zealots to SCOTUS to overturn Roe v Wade! But (IMO) what tfg really thought about was the 2000 election. He was pretty-sure that if he could make a big enough deal about and raise enough doubt, surely what SCOTUS did for George Bush, they'd do for him. Especially seeing as how some of them owed their position on this very court to him. We know this because many of us witnessed him on our tv's occasionally reminding them of it.
