Monterey Park Mass Shooter in Standoff With Police in Torrance - breaking NOW
Source: ABC 7 news
MONTEREY PARK, Calif. (KABC) -- Ten people were killed and at least 10 others were wounded in a mass shooting at a dance studio in Monterey Park, setting off a search for the gunman, police said.
During a press conference Sunday morning, L.A. County Sheriff Robert Luna described the suspect as an Asian male between 30 to 50 years old, based on preliminary information. A more detailed description was not available.
Luna said the suspect fled the scene and remains outstanding.
"We're serious about catching this suspect and bringing him to justice," Monterey Park Police Chief Scott Wiese said.

(26,507 posts)It would be terrible - if they were half-hearted about catching the suspect and bringing him to justice.
I'm sorry - but that is just a stupid remark or quote for this Police Chief to make.
I had coffee this morning with my nextdoor neighbor (recently retired cop from LA) and evidently the morale on the force in that area isn't the best. Most of the veteran cops just want to get their time in and retire.

(9,313 posts)I'm sorry, but it appears to me to reflect the gahalf-heartedness affecting law enforcement all over our country. No, not every force, and certainly not every officer, but way too many. Unless the perp is deemed darker than a brown paper bag.

(168,628 posts)but it looked "bad" that 10 people were gunned down in a mass shooting, who were most likely predominately (if not all) Asian, and the media didn't care and essentially said "So? We have our (bogus) "documents" story and we're going to run with it because RW loon ratings".
PatSeg
(53,123 posts)were going to cover prepared and then a maniac has to go shooting up some place and knock them off script. We have so many television news sources these days, but somehow a lot less "news". It is mostly rehearsed commentary or entertainment.
I turn on cable news less and less and rarely ever on weekends. The first thing I read on DU this morning was a complaint about MSNBC covering the Biden documents story ad nauseum and if it hadn't been for the mass shooting in LA, that would have been all they would have talked about all day long.
I really like some political coverage and commentary, but it would be nice if they could squeeze in some news each hour.
BumRushDaShow
(168,628 posts)which is why the old-school scheduled "traditional" news slots tended to force priority reporting whereas 24/7 results in repetitive rehashing and talking point commentary to fill those other hours (and when they tire of that, they end up going with "long form programming" ).
PatSeg
(53,123 posts)It's not 24/7 news, it is news-ish with very little reporting and lots of "expert" commentary. I like a certain amount of commentary, but this has gotten ridiculous.

(5,425 posts)there are more of President Biden's papers in the van. Fox is probably reporting that there are more of President Biden's papers in the van. And OANN is probably covering George Anthony DeVolder Santos' as he "talks to the killer live on TV" to get him to surrender.

snip-"A tactical team is searching the van in the Torrance standoff
A law enforcement tactical team has moved in and started searching a white cargo van that was involved in a standoff with officers in Torrance, California.
Aerial video from CNN affiliate KABC showed the team move in and break the passenger side window on the vehicle, then open the side doors and start searching the van.
Law enforcement sources earlier told CNN that the van is potentially linked to the Monterey Park mass shooting, and that officers heard what they believed was the sound of the driver shooting himself during a standoff that started after officers pulled the van over."
