Trump advisers are reportedly scrambling to generate the hefty crowd size that the former president expects, but they're having a difficult time doing it. All of this comes amid Trump losing a key bloc of voters that had been loyal and dedicated to him: anti-choice voters.
Despite the Trump judges striking down the right for an individual to regulate their own healthcare, Rolling Stone is reporting that anti-choice voters are looking to someone else as their top candidate.
The group, "Students For Life," did a straw poll looking at the 2024 candidates that are being rumored, and Donald Trump is not their first choice. In fact, his showing in second place was nothing to celebrate.
Among the 2,000 attendees at a summit of anti-choice activists, it was Gov. Ron DeSantis that won 53.7 percent of the attendees.
"Former President Donald Trump placed in a distant second with just 19.22 percent," said Rolling Stone. .............................

Kristan Hawkins, the president of Students for Life, told the magazine that in the post-Roe era, Checking the box and saying youre pro-life isnt sufficient."...................

(16,296 posts)He is stealthy in his conservative approach, knows how to shade his agenda just enough to appeal to the right without really alarming the left, he couches his words and approaches to issue with subtle shades of logic and appeal without the screaming rhetoric of the orange slug.
He us sneaky and if any one practices the political art of boiling frogs in pots so they are unaware of what is going to happen to them when the heat is turned way up and the lid is put on the pot, it is DeSantis.
Be afraid, be very afraid - this guy knows how to appeal to both sides of the see saw by sitting on that very fine balance.

(16,407 posts)I am convinced that whoever came up with the "pro-life" label meant for it to imply that anyone not on their side of the fence is "pro-death," which is dishonest, unfair, inaccurate, and downright rude. It is deeply, profoundly offensive to me, and I absolutely refuse to use it. Doing so would reinforce the idea that it is somehow valid, and that is something I am unwilling to do.
Even those who believe human lives are at stake should have better sense than to believe that deciding whether to have an abortion can be boiled down to making a choice between "life" and "death." That's an insultingly childish and simplistic way to look at these important decisions.
Using a label like "pro-life" is an attempt to strip away all nuances and portray abortion as a completely nuance-free, black and white issue. Imo, we should never let them get away with that.

(9,997 posts)He is smarter than Trump, and he doesnt have all the Trump baggagethe business fraud with the fake university and many others, the sexual assaults, the fake charity he and the family used as a piggybank, his curious relationship with Putin brought to center stage with private meetings and phone calls and his refusal ever to criticize Putin.
DeSantis is a homegrown version of Trump, but with the intelligence to cultivate white grievance and religious extremism and use them to his advantage. Everything he does is calculated for its benefit to him politically. Trump and his Republican enablers brought fascist ideas to the forefront and made them acceptable to their voters. I believe DeSantis is even more a fascist and would do great harm to our country if he were ever elected president with control of both houses of Congress. He might not do the same type of damage internationally that Trump did because no one knows his foreign policy views, but his domestic agenda is clearly one of promoting Republican and evangelical propaganda as the law of the land, hurting women an ties however possible.
