An Arkansas man who was photographed during the Jan. 6 riot with his feet on a desk in then-House Speaker Nancy Pelosis office, was found guilty on all counts Monday after brief jury deliberations.
Richard Barnett faced eight charges stemming from the insurrection, including theft of government property. He said repeatedly in court last week that he regretted what transpired at the Capitol that day but did not consider his actions illegal.
After the verdict, Barnett told reporters outside the court courthouse, This is not a jury of my peers. I dont agree with the decision, but I do appreciate the process and we are surely going to appeal.
Barnett's attorney, Joseph McBride, agreed with his client, saying Washington, D.C.s political composition is not like the rest of the United States and that, coupled with Jan. 6 media coverage, eviscerated any chance of a fair trial. Barnett is scheduled to be sentenced on May 3.

Original article -
Richard Barnett faced eight charges stemming from the insurrection, including theft of government property. He said repeatedly in court last week that he regretted what transpired at the Capitol that day but did not consider his actions illegal.
Barnett appears in images from the riot reclining in a chair in the speaker's office, with his feet propped up, and what the government referred to as a stun device tucked in his pants. Before leaving Pelosis office, Barnett took an envelope that he later displayed for cameras outside the Capitol.
In court Friday, before the case was handed to the jury, Assistant U.S. Attorney Michael Gordon pored over Barnetts version of Jan. 6 and poked holes in his testimony, visibly angering Barnett. Barnett, who a day earlier had said he would apologize to Pelosi, D-Calif., if she were in court, admitted during cross-examination that when a police officer told him he needed to leave her office he replied: You need to give up communism.

And that, "you need to give up communism" comment. That is just so patently stupid. These poorly educated schmucks label anything "communist" they don't understand or agree with.

Now he has become convicted. Oh well, thoughts and prayers.

(6,931 posts)Look at the statement they made in court, most would do it all over again if given the chance. Many get no jail time, many get a couple of weeks and some probation and a fine.
Yeah...as many say THEY were a PART of something, and they knew exactly what that something was and how GD illegal it was.

Per Scott MacFarlane, who was in the courtroom during the trial, Barnett is now wailing about not having a 'jury of his peers'.
Excellent news!

(129,066 posts)The article was updated or a May 3rd sentencing. That starts the clock on the way to the Santos Administration (assuming Santos is willing to grift for the guy's defense without keeping it all for himself).
