Source: al-Jazeera

California-based Harmony was target of a cyberattack that stole $100m worth of digital assets. The North Korean hacking groups Lazarus Group and APT38 carried out the cyber heist on crypto firm Harmony last June, the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) said in a statement on Monday.

When the Army sent me to South Korea in 1969, I had to hand in my US dollars. In exchange I got equivalent Military Payment Certificates. This was meant to hamper North Korea's ongoing counterfeiting of dollars.

If we were overseas we had to turn in our US money.
We were given military funny money.

We could use the currency of the local economy when off base.

We we strictly forbidden to use US cash at any time.

As kids we didn't understand why. Figured it was just the military
bossing us around as per usual. But we did as we were told, at least most
of the time.

Military kids don't like getting on the wrong side of the base commander.
Because when that happens your dad gets chewed out and then when he
gets home it doesn't turn out to be one of your better days.

But in all fairness Air Force kids were given a lot of freedom and no one
paid a lot of attention to our antics. Dads were usually gone during wartime,
Moms busy with social events. We heard the Army and Marine kids had it much
harder than we did, we were lucky and we knew it.

Since crypto isn’t backed by anything except the lofty assurances of crypto’s proponents, who exactly should be responsible for prosecuting this crime?

they have a very sophisticated hacking infrastructure.

that's how they make most of their money: hacking, making and spreading meth (among other drugs) and money laundering; to name a few.

14. The money they stole was still in a bank somewhere ... am I right?

I'll admit that I'm stupid about cryptocurrency, but I do know that somewhere a bank is holding the funds that paid for the crypto. Otherwise it's completely worthless. North Korea managed to hack and steal the crypto-data but it's still not real money. Unless they stole it from a bank, then it's real.

You're probably laughing at me now, because I really don't understand this. I only know that it's a pyramid scheme, and the people who bought the crypto paid real money for it. They're the real victims.

while the money has been spent for some of the bitcoin, much of it has been "mined".

and NK deals with things via the dark web to do their dirty work. they are constantly trolling and rolling for credit card info to exploit
