Top Russian Military Official Dead After Fall From 16th Floor

Source: Daily Beast

Marina Yankina handled cash flows for the Western Military District.

A Russian military official in charge of financial provisions for the military district blamed for the Kremlin’s worst losses in Ukraine has been found dead after a nasty fall from a St. Petersburg high-rise.

Marina Yankina, head of the department of financial provisions for the Western Military District, was found dead on a sidewalk on Wednesday morning, according to multiple local reports. She is just the latest in a growing list of Russian military officials, defense industry figures, war critics, and gas and oil execs to die suddenly and mysteriously since the start of the full-scale invasion last year.

The 58-year-old’s belongings and documents were found on a balcony on the 16th floor of the building, Mash reports.

Russia’s Investigative Committee is looking into the circumstances of the deadly plunge, with their preliminary conclusion being suicide, according to Fontanka.

Thu Feb 16, 2023, 07:06 PM
Feb 2023

"Received is the unembalmed, symmetrically developed, adequately nourished and hydrated, body of an adult white female appearing approximately her reported age of 58 years. The body is cool to the touch and has been previously refrigerated. The body was delivered wearing the clothing she had on at the time of her death. We determined that the back of the collar of her dress had been torn. We discovered handprints consistent with a tight manual grip around her wrists and ankles. All the bones on the ventral fascia of her body had been shattered by impact with a concrete surface, which is consistent with her reported fall from the 16th floor of a building. There is no bruising on the ventral fascia as the body was dead before it was placed into flight. We discovered that the back of the skull contained four circular fractures consistent with being hit in the head with a sledgehammer. The body does not appear to have suffered sexual assault before death.

"If this body was that of anyone else, we would state that the cause of death was being beaten to death with a sledgehammer and thrown off the side of a building. However, since this is a government official's body we must state that the cause of death was 'natural to the business she was in.'"
