Tesla engineering HQ leaving Texas to return to California, Musk announces

Source: the hill

by Travis Schlepp - 02/22/23 5:29 PM ET

(KTLA) – Tesla is returning to California.

Elon Musk announced during a joint press conference with California Gov. Gavin Newsom that Tesla would be returning its global engineering headquarters to California, two years after a dramatic exit that saw the electric car company leave the Golden State for a facility in Austin, Texas.

Tesla will open up shop in the former home of Hewlett Packard in Palo Alto, Musk said. The facility will serve as the company’s engineering headquarters while the corporate headquarters remains in Austin.

The move returns Tesla to the world’s center of technology and innovation, and puts Musk in closer to proximity to the headquarters of Twitter, which the billionaire tech entrepreneur purchased last year in a massive social media shakeup.

Musk called the move into HP’s old building a “poetic transition from the company that founded Silicon Valley to Tesla.” .....................

I imagine the Texas Gov is not pleased.

many of those highly trained employees to move to (or remain in) Texas, absence of state income tax aside.
At some point, regressive political climates take a toll.

He decided to cut all taxes on businesses to zero. In his trickle-down deranged mind, businesses were going to flock to Kansas.

Meanwhile the schools shut down in February because funding ran out. Police and fire departments had to cut staff, and homeowners started paying more taxes to try and make up the difference.

The result- even if a business could go to Kansas the employees told them to fuck off - they were not going to a state that couldn’t pay for police, fire, and education.

In the end businesses were begging to be taxed and after the crazies elected Brown for a 2nd term, a democrat won.

Trickle down doesn’t work. The data is in. Republicans are not only science deniers - they deny math and economics too.

He was reelected and left to do some missionary thing that the president asked him to do. I cannot remember exactly how it went, I knew the man and his family and was so happy he was leaving I did not particularly care why. We recovered and are doing much better but sadly our legislature is putting us right back to flat tax and it will wreck us again.

I do not remember schools shutting down, are you talking about this month? We have a Democrat who is doing some good things but is hamstrung by the super majority Republicans here and we will see what happens with schools. We are building several new schools around the area of Kansas that I live in, all just approved and beginning.

We have 3 major new businesses getting ready to start building in this state bringing in a lot of jobs, something we have never really been able to do so.....I do not know what you are talking about, nobody in government ever said they will not pay for police, fire or education that I know of, not even under Brownback. People say a lot of dumb stuff but that does not make it real. Like MTG we have our own nuts but we know they are nuts, at least most of us. Not sure about the future but whatever this info you have is, I am pretty sure it was never anything said by anyone seriously.

I do not remember businesses begging to be taxed. Brownback did get his second term but left in the middle of it to go spread religion to other countries. His second became governor to fill out the remaining time.

Yes a democrat won. She is also someone I know. She has done an amazing job navigating things and was just re-elected. She is completely at a disadvantage. The supermajorities of both houses have voted themselves a lot of the power. They are going to muck it up again and the flat tax is back.

Please, things can be pretty bad here in my state. We voted for abortion to remain legal here but they are taking that apart regardless of the vote of the citizens. This is all bad for us but please lets not make it worse.

of an idiot. Aside from his governing sucking, the fact that he washed and oiled the feet of his staff every morning and every afternoon did that thing some christians do where they make pain or flagellate themselves every afternoon for Jesus I suppose. Knowing Sam I would believe every bit of that.

We won a raffle at my kids school to get a paid trip to DC with Sam showing us around the halls of congress. We thought it was unlikely we would win but a good way to get there cheaply. We won and he ditched us. LOL!! 20 minutes and he was out of there. He knew us well enough that he knew we were not interested in his ideas.

He broke this state and he would not stop when we all knew it. He just kept going.

they just put us right back where he had us with the flat tax. Our health leaders who ran the pandemic response and have taken care of everything during every season of disease have been stopped dead, they cannot even tell us there is a contagion around. Oh yes, remember that lovely little vote we had on abortion when a majority of us voted to keep it accessible here? Remember how happy and proud we all were, how hard we worked and how amazing it was? Well the just voted that out and abortion is now illegal in Kansas.

I was too depressed to actually suss out most of what I read through tears and exhaustion, been a hard week. I am hoping it is not as bad as I read. Oh yes....forget trangendered people, our state is certainly going to.

I have a good, happy and wonderful weekend ahead. I will be back on Monday and for now I am watching a movie and not letting this sink all the way in, Monday will be soon enough.

HOW IN THE HELL COULD THEY JUST OVERRIDE THAT VOTE LIKE THIS?

**PS I knew Sam and his family. He has been in my home, our kids went to school with his kids. Never cared for him and he never remembered who I was the ass. At the same time my kids were in school with our current Governor. She remembers us, lol. Ole Sam has a reputation for certain and it depends on what side you are on how it goes. It sucked when he was here.

I heard the engineering staff was decimarted by the move. Mush thought he could attract replacement talent. But a combination of Musk being an asshole and TEXAS means that skilled engineers could switch to companies in places that don't have hate as a primary value.

I mean states are always socializing the costs infrastructure, TIF and other means to reduce the cost from the ruling class to the taxpayers to get companies to stay or move to their state.

first started with them but 10 years later, they descended into corporate greed, cutting employees and their benefits, and more. Then they moved from innovation and US manufacturing into copycat manufacturing and support in Asia so profits could increase, local high paying jobs would disappear and investment in new ideas would no longer be needed.

The utilities and infrastructure were horrendous. Yes, they were able to buy a big house for 25% of what your average house goes for in CA, but there was nothing fun to do and they were absolutely miserable there. They lasted 2 years and then moved to a little townhouse in Las Vegas/Henderson. They're now saving up to move back to CA.
