Putin, Afghans among top gift givers to Bidens in 2021

Source: AP

BY MATTHEW LEE 28 minutes ago

WASHINGTON (AP) — Russia’s president and the deposed leader of Afghanistan were among the top gift givers to President Joe Biden and his family in 2021, according to federal documents published on Thursday.

In happier times between all three countries, Vladimir Putin gave Biden a $12,000 lacquer writing box and pen when they met at a highly anticipated summit in Geneva, Switzerland in June 2021.

And, then-Afghan President Mohammed Ashraf Ghani and his wife gave the U.S. president and first lady Jill Biden silk rugs worth an estimated $28,800 later that month.

Relations between the U.S. and Russia turned sour shortly after the Geneva meeting and have plummeted since Russia’s invasion of Ukraine last February. Ghani, meanwhile, fled Afghanistan shortly after the U.S. withdrew from the country on Biden’s orders in August, 2021.

Those gifts will never be the "personal" property of the first family UpInArms Feb 2023 #1
Yup. They are not personal gifts. grumpyduck Feb 2023 #2
Exactly. These are gifts to a Head of State--a diplomatic gesture--not personal. hlthe2b Feb 2023 #3
Probably true that they won't want to. OneCrazyDiamond Feb 2023 #7
Then, they become purchases, not gifts UpInArms Feb 2023 #8

So, why is it being stated as such? (News article, not poster)

The only one who took presidential gifts with him was fucktard.

But it is a choice for them to be bought at market value. Passed government officials have purchased gifts of state they wanted to keep.

". . . silk rugs worth an estimated $28,800 . . . "!!!!!!!!!!

I was in Afghanistan in early1976 and bought two Afghan silk rugs, small ones, they are elsewhere in the house and I'm too lazy to go measure them, but, they are about 2 ft X 4 ft. $100 US greenbacks total bought the two of them!!!!!!!

I'd better get hold of my insurance company and have them appraised!!!!!
