We really need to upgrade our vetting using modern psychological insights and testing to choose for the right stuff and cull what isn't.

It's not done for political and equality of representation and antidiscrimination reasons. Testing would tend to disproportionately disqualify people with the kind of cognition and judgement problems that are common in some political groups on both sides. Looking at authoritarian and extremist traits alone, I'm guessing half or more of today's Republican voters wouldn't make the first cut.
