(36,628 posts)The quote Ive never wished a man dead, but I have read some obituaries with great pleasure attributed to Mark Twain is FALSE. A similar version of the quote actually came from attorney Clarence Darrow, who first said it more than a decade after Twains death.

(8,159 posts)Darrow could have picked up the phrase from Mark Twain directly or indirectly. It isn't all that unfathomable, happens all the time.
It's also not uncommon to accidentally mis-attribute quotes.. I haven't researched the earliest source on collected quotes of Twain, but unless they're all mostly 'fake' quotes, this quote certainly fits Twain's style and character, it seems to me.

I once heard Judy Judy say that she asked a doctor for advice on how to live for a long time. Accodding to her, he said, "Don't fall down!" I have never forgotten that.

I fell last July and had a brain bleed. I was in the hospital for four days. I was unsteady on my feet for another week. It was not fun.
I am told that if one wants to live a long healthy life, falling is not an option.
