Afroman Sued By Law Enforcement Officers Over Use Of Raid Footage

Source: Yahoo!

Rapper Afroman faces a lawsuit from Ohio law enforcement officers alleging that he invaded their privacy by using images of them raiding his house.

Afroman (real name Joseph Foreman) had his home raided in August 2022 by the Adam’s County Sheiff’s Office. They were looking for drugs and alleged kidnapping victims.

No charges were filed based on the raid. However, security cameras and footage from Foreman’s wife’s mobile phone were captured. Those images were used in subsequent videos mocking the situation.

“I asked myself, as a powerless Black man in America, what can I do to the cops that kicked my door in, tried to kill me in front of my kids, stole my money and disconnected my cameras?” Foreman said in an NPR interview. “And the only thing I could come up with was make a funny rap song about them and make some money, use the money to pay for the damages they did and move on.”

There is no way this will go anywhere, right?

Even the most pro-police person has to find this ridiculous.

Now if the cops had found something nefarious.....like weed omg!!....or anything else illegal, they might have the right to say that he can't use footage that could be used as evidence in an upcoming case.

But since nothing was found, how does he not have the right to use whatever footage of his own home space including whomever is inside of it, for whatever reason he wants to?

It's to cost Afro Man time and legal expenses. Cops do this one regularly because they don't have to pay to sue. They will drag it out and try to break him financially, then either drop the charges or lose in court. It is possible for AM's attorney to ask for legal costs, if he is able to convince the judge the cops are just doing this to harass him.. .

Free publicity for the song.

The LEO's just expanded AM's reach while calling attention to their malfeasance. Not the brightest bulbs in the cruiser.

Rock on, Afroman!

thanks to Qualified Immunity, they should not be allowed to sue others from things that happen while they are on duty and serving in an official capacity.

those whose actions led to the issuing of the faulty warrant -- the people who misinformed the police, and/or the law enforcement personnel who botched the investigation. They're at least as "responsible" for the cops' "embarrassment" as Afroman is.

Although it was probably enough for them to target him for being Black and the Because I Got High guy. 🙄

I can imagine it now:
Cops: “He’s a drug addict librul, yer honor.. And we all know them libruls are all pedos.”
Judge: He’s a Black man with money. Yer right, Boys! I just feel it my bones he’s drug trafficking and selling babies to the porn industry.”
Meanwhile, back in the judge’s chambers, he pops in another child porn dvd… because projection is all these people have.

If cop cam footage can be shown on the news with no lawsuits, then a private citizen in his own home can be broadcast without impunity. Whoever advised them has got to be one of the stupidest lawyers to ever live.

If "Ripley's Believe It Or Not" had a legal section...................

This would be something for Comedy Central if it had been made up by a comedian. How are comedy writers supposed to keep up with this kind of incident?

Graham Nash needs to do a new version of his famous song, Our House

Our house
Was a very, very, very fine house
With two cops in the yard
Life sure is getting hard
It used to be so easy
With no Blue

There are exceptions for public figures and news events. I suspect that is what the police officers may be claiming.

Even the TV show "Cops" had to get a release from anyone whom they filmed before it was aired. Occasionally they would have to blur someone out if they didn't get it.

If the cops won and were awarded $1.00 each but ordered to return all confiscated money and pay for any damages.

Edit: on second thought if the cops won and got a dollar, Afroman would have to take down the video. I don’t think that would be justice.

It’s the price that they pay for their qualified immunity. It will get tossed out.
