DOVER, Del. (AP) A federal district court judge has upheld the approval of a $2.4 billion bankruptcy reorganization plan aimed at resolving tens of thousands of child sexual abuse claims against the Boy Scouts of America.
The ruling docketed Tuesday rejects arguments by non-settling insurance companies and attorneys representing dissenting abuse survivors that the reorganization plan was not proposed in good faith and improperly strips the insurers and survivors of their rights.
The ruling follows a September decision in which U.S. Bankruptcy Judge Laurie Selber Silverstein approved the plan. The plan would allow the Irving, Texas-based Boy Scouts of America to continue operating while compensating tens of thousands of men who say they were sexually abused as children while involved in Scouting.
More than 80,000 men have filed claims saying they were abused as children by troop leaders around the country. Plan opponents say the staggering number of claims, when combined with other factors, suggests that the bankruptcy process was manipulated.

Lots of homoerotica from people who are just beginning to sexually mature.
Stick your sweaty dick in someone's face. Hold a boy down while others sit bare-assed on him.
I survived these rituals.
However, all things in consideration, overall, scouting was a very positive experience for me. I can still tie those knots.

Both of us left there thinking it was way too militaristic -- and that was even here, in a Seattle suburb.
It seemed nothing like the Brownie (Girl Scouts) troup that I'd joined at that age.

There was nothing especially militaristic about my direct scouting experiences, but I did see it in other troops.
One time at camp, I watched the scoutmaster of another troop publically paddle the ass of a 12-year-old boy who failed his swimming test.
I was horrified. Nothing like that from the adult leaders in my troop.
Just a lot of bullying from the older boys.

During my years in scouting in the 60's and early 70's, I never encountered, observed, or even heard about any abusive practices. Must have been a different culture then because it's extremely disheartening how this organization has devolved and imploded.

I think my scoutmaster may be one of those the BSA protected by destroying his file because he had retired and was old. It's unforgivable that they did that.
The BSA is riddled with conservatives now and I think they still ban atheist scouts. There is a lot not to approve, but yet, the organization still provides much guidance and educational experiences to young people.
