Ex-Magellan Diagnostics execs charged with concealing lead-test defect

Source: Reuters

Three former executives of medical device company Magellan Diagnostics concealed a malfunction in the company’s lead-testing devices that caused tests to underestimate the level of lead in people's blood, U.S. prosecutors in Boston said in announcing criminal charges on Wednesday.

Amy Winslow, Hossein Maleknia and Reba Daoust misled Magellan customers and the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) about when they discovered the defect, the extent of the problem and the risks associated with it, prosecutors said.

Winslow, the company’s former CEO, Maleknia, the former chief operating officer, and Daoust, the former director of quality assurance and regulatory affairs, were indicted in U.S. district court in Massachusetts on charges including conspiracy to commit wire fraud and conspiracy to defraud a U.S. agency.

Love when they get taken down, and pay a (hopefully serious) price!

5. Well, if they have to sell off some of their cushy lifestyle good!

Mind you, I would have loved to have made it to a quite cushy lifestyle in an honest way. Might have had a few extravaganzes!
"Let me dream if I want to", the band - Suicide.

A four bedroom apt in Manhattan near Ft Tryon, or Central Park on a tree lined 🥰 street! And a housekeeper who I'd pay above minimum wage for goodness sakes!
Why four bedrooms? One for me, two for guests, and the fourth for my 🥰🥰😄 Art & Craft studio! I'd probably turn the master bedroom into the studio. More art, jewelry and goregeous yarn supplies!
A great stereo system, a big TV w streaming services! Buying more art, and craft objects. Hmmm, maybe I'd need a fifth bedroom to be my "museum" room to display most of them. A few cushy chairs so I, and my guests could just take in people's wonderful creativity!
Visiting a few new places, and revisiting a few favorites, too!

More take out - Greek, North & South Indian, pizza & Italian, Chinese, Soul food, Spanish! I'd cook, too, with great cooking supplies.

I would also have been very happy to help family, friends, and people, places in need, too.
(even if it means some less for me - I'm glad my folks taught me the golden rule, and it stuck. I've needed help, people have often helped me; so I know what it's like. I'm happy to pay it forward.)
There are truly very few totaly "self made" people.

I know I've gone on 😄 (putting it out there just in case the Universe wants to genuinely gift me w a few million after taxes!)
But it's nice to dream.

7. Here's hoping they spend years in prison ala Theranos woman Elizabeth Holmes.

Though, she is appealing.

.. In June 2018, a federal grand jury indicted Holmes and former Theranos chief operating officer (COO) Ramesh "Sunny" Balwani on fraud charges.[8][9] Her trial in the case of U.S. v. Holmes, et al. ended in January 2022 when Holmes was convicted of defrauding investors, and acquitted of defrauding patients.[10] In November 2022, she was sentenced to serve 11+1?4 years in prison
