India's Population Surpasses China's, Shifting the World's 'Center of Gravity'

Source: Wall Street Journal

China’s population has reigned as the largest in the world for more than two centuries. Now India is taking its place, heralding a major shift in the global order.

The United Nations has said India’s population is projected to surpass China’s sometime this year. Many demographers estimate it could happen this month, if it hasn’t already. India’s population is expected to reach 1.429 billion by the end of the year, according to the U.N. China will fall to second place, with 1.426 billion people. Both dwarf the U.S. at a projected 340 million.

India’s rising population means it’s likely to keep its economy growing, buy more of the world’s goods and play a bigger role in global affairs, even as it grapples with poverty and a lack of jobs.

China’s demographic headwinds will make it harder for the country to achieve its economic ambitions, or to supplant the U.S. as the world’s biggest economy, despite its rising wealth and military power.

China’s gross domestic product will surpass that of the U.S. in about 2035, the Goldman group led by Kevin Daly and Tadas Gedminas wrote, while India’s GDP will narrowly surpass the U.S.’ in about 2075.

6. I wonder how china's demographic collapse we've been hearing so much about will affect that

or if it will even happen. An aging population that will lead to a drop in the hundreds of millions of people. A large older population with a much smaller younger working population seems pretty dangerous.

It's a matter of math at this point. China does not have enough 20-30 year olds to replace their population and those they do have are not reproducing. They also have a lack of 35-45 year old who entering the most productive period of their lives to drive the economy through investment.

Throw in China's dependence on foreign nations for food and fuel and you have a major disaster looming in the next 10-20 years.

India was much later to the urbanization game and still has a stable population pyramid.

17. Economic prosperity has always had that affect. Ask China and it's very very slowing growth.

Or Japan.

Meanwhile the population of heavily underpopulated and underdeveloped Africa is still in high population growth, so many young people, removed from the shackles of colonialism… their leaders have wisely accepted offers for vast infrastructure development from former not colonizers. The untapped potential of so many young people is a theft from everyone.

Is there a more valuable resource in the so far known Universe than a human being?

But not fast enough, it's north needs more attention and resources for economic development.

Hopefully, the rest of the world follows suit, the Planet can't support 20 Billion people living a developed world lifestyle.

Currently, about one third of the world`s population - total births - is being born in Africa - mostly sub-Saharan Africa, which is about twice the the rate of the rest of the world.

The racial issues currently being discussed in the US, are likely to change dramatically in the next 50 years, during which almost 70-75% of children will be born in Africa.

They share a common border and parts of which they squabble over still so I give it 5 years 10 max before we see it flare up.

Baby factory plan, American women will be forced to surpass that after 2024 DICKtator takeover. Our babies will be having babies.
Wasn’t Texas offering tax credits for 10 baby families?
We will balance the weight of earth for proper orbital spin.
We are gonna need many more grocery stores to manufacture their endless supply of food.
