FBI investigating GOP Okla. officials caught on tape talking about lynching Black people
Source: Heartland Signal
The audio was published by print-only newspaper McCurtain Gazette-News, and it released transcript of a recording from a county commissioners meeting last month to the public that allegedly incriminates several public officials after disturbing comments were made. The full audio recording from Gazette-News reporter Bruce Willingham will be released by the newspaper at a later date.
After hundreds came out in protest, Oklahoma Gov. Kevin Stitt (R) has called for the resignation of McCurtain County Sheriff Kevin Clardy (R), District 2 Commissioner Mark Jennings (R), Investigator Alicia Manning and Jail Administrator Larry Hendrix for their comments in the meeting. District 3 Commissioner Robert Beck (R) is also cited in the audio.
The transcript suggests that the group first started discussing a recent fire which killed a woman and her two dogs. The group joked about the womans body parts falling off her body, and that it is similar to eating barbecue.

(11,447 posts)Since it was their policies that created the POC prison pipeline, I say let them go and experience it first hand. I would love to hear their them explain to the population there what they meant by their words.

(23,436 posts)Yes - their hatred extends to other 'others' (Jews, Arabs, Asians, Latinos, LGBT, etc.).
But what a lot of them feel against Black folks, is in a category of its own.
Why exactly? I don't think even they know - but (having lived in Mi'ssippi) I can tell you a lot of them blame Black people for "losing the wah!"
The neo-confederate delusion is very real with these people.

(9,148 posts)Unfortunately this shit is everywhere. Look at Idaho, just as one example. Parts of it are now attracting literal Nazis.
As someone who grew up there but left a long time ago, I can say that although OK did not exist at the time of the Civil War, a lot of the people who settled there were from former Confederate states and brought their beliefs with them. There are some enclaves of educated and liberal people but they are rare in a rural area like this county. I think it has only gotten worse in the 50 plus years since I left because most educated people have to leave the state to find work. Still, I don't know if their is any state where this does not exist to some extent.

(1,067 posts)I sometime watch these YouTube videos where "Auditors" record thier interactions with local Sheriff's and cops in the South. Most of the guys are white and sometimes they get verbally pushy but they know the law. The Sheriff's and thier deputies get really agitated and just want to lock the person up for really obscure reasons. I would hate to be a black person in those states because the Sheriff can just make you disappear.
Somebody asked why did they say these things, well it is because they believe it and they had no clue they were being recorded. Guarantee you that newspaper is getting some interesting emails and messages right now.

I cannot even imagine hating anyone enough to even think in those terms.
We cannot let people who would do such things walk free. I do not know what we can do to be certain they are removed from populations they might be likely to hurt but we have to do something. My god this is just horrible, that last comment in the post about the body parts.
