Oldest convicted Nazi criminal dies at 102
Source: BBC
The oldest person to be convicted over crimes committed during the Holocaust has died at the age of 102.
Josef Schütz was found guilty last June of assisting in the murder of thousands of prisoners at Sachsenhausen near Berlin between 1942 and 1945.
He was given a five-year prison sentence but remained free while he awaited the outcome of an appeal to the Federal Court of Justice.
Schütz had always denied being an SS guard at the Nazi concentration camp.

(35,732 posts)Of his last name with the umlaut would be shitz.
Just in case anyone was wondering.
As a native German speaker - I am sorry to say that Schutz does not sound like Shitz. And neither does Schütz.
Even with a Bavarian dialect or Friessen or Schwäbische dialect. Not even in Hoch Deutsch.

(16,887 posts)Not the pronunciation of his name - and as you incorrectly claim sounds like shit (No - not close).
But rather that he was a shit. Showed no remorse or care for what he was accused and found guilty of and of the atrocities committed by Nazis.
A more relevant thing would be pointing out that his name Schutz means Protect. Which he most certainly didnt do.
PS: My father was Schützenkönig of his local Schützenfest and I guarantee you that no one ever called him Shitzen-könig.

For prioritizing my intellectual thoughts.
Also for telling me how to pronounce words. No you say tomato I say tomatoh with you! I bow to your superior authoritarianism.
You are obviously my intellectual superior.
Have a nice day and next time I need to do something that strains my mind, like find my way to the grocery store, Ill check in with you.
p.s. authoritarianism was intentional. I hope you get it.
on edit:
it's close, as I said, but more important, contains a "tonal" touch that I liked. Here's a pronunciation of umlaut U:

I rather like the ewh sound. It adds a nice little note of contempt.
