Russia says Ukraine attacked Kremlin with drones in failed bid to kill Putin

Source: Reuters

The Kremlin said two drones had been used in the alleged attack on Putin's residence in the Kremlin citadel, but had been disabled by electronic defences.

It said Russia reserved the right to retaliate - a comment that suggested that Moscow might use the alleged incident to justify a further escalation in the 14-month-old war with Ukraine.

There was no immediate comment from Ukrainian authorities.

"Two unmanned aerial vehicles were aimed at the Kremlin. As a result of timely actions taken by the military and special services with the use of radar warfare systems, the devices were put out of action," the Kremlin said in a statement.

"We regard these actions as a planned terrorist act and an attempt on the president's life, carried out on the eve of Victory Day, the May 9 Parade, at which the presence of foreign guests is also planned ...

If, indeed, the drones were launched from Ukraine, they traveled some 600 miles through Russian territory undetected.

If, on the other hand, they were launched from the Russian territory, the implications for Russia's internal security forces are even more serious.

Heads will roll

So it would have to be a large enough drone to have that range, unless of course it wasn't launched from Ukraine, but then where could it possibly have been launched from?

Moscow Tightens Security for May 9 Parade Over Ukraine Risk - Kremlin

MOSCOW (Reuters) - Russian security services are working to ensure that Moscow's annual Victory Day parade across Red Square on May 9 can go ahead safely despite the risk of a threat from Ukraine, the Kremlin said on Tuesday.

The Free Russia Legion reportedly has a couple hundred Russian citizens fighting on the Ukrainian side.

If Ukraine wanted to distract the Russian government as a prelude to an upcoming offensive, sending a couple Russian defectors to Moscow and having them to crash a drone or two somewhere on the Kremlin grounds would certainly fit the bill.

1) If at first you don't succeed try, try again.

2) Next time send a swarm of, let's say 1,500. If only a few get through, it will have been worth the effort.

3) 6 days until the big red square celebration. How about some Ukrainian fireworks in the middle of the square to help them out?

The cold war never ended for Russia. It's about time the west stopped talking about the peace dividend and face reality. Russia always accuses the West of what they are doing.
