Rudy Giuliani said he and Trump were selling pardons for $2m apiece, ex-aide claims

Source: The Independent

A former aide to former Trump attorney Rudolph Giuliani says he told her the ex-New York City mayor and then-president Donald Trump were offering to sell presidential pardons for $2 million apiece, according to court documents.

The bombshell allegation was levied in a complaint filed against Mr Giuliani by Noelle Dunphy, a New York-based public relations professional who is suing him for “unlawful abuses of power, wide-ranging sexual assault and harassment, wage theft, and other misconduct” committed while she worked for him in 2019 and 2020

Ms Duphy’s lawsuit details an interaction she allegedly had with Mr Giuliani on or about 16 February 2019, when he was serving as Mr Trump’s personal attorney and attempting to dig up overseas dirt on then-former vice president Joe Biden, who at the time was two months away from entering the 2020 presidential race against Mr Trump.

She writes that as they reviewed emails between him and Ukrainian government officials, she asked if he had to register as a foreign agent under the Foreign Agents Registration Act and offered to do the required paperwork for him.

WASHINGTON — As President Trump prepares to leave office in days, a lucrative market for pardons is coming to a head, with some of his allies collecting fees from wealthy felons or their associates to push the White House for clemency, according to documents and interviews with more than three dozen lobbyists and lawyers.

Mr. Kiriakou said he also broached his quest for a pardon during a meeting last year with Mr. Giuliani and his associates on another subject at the Trump International Hotel in Washington, which involved substantial alcohol.

When Mr. Giuliani went to the bathroom at one point, one of his confidants turned to Mr. Kiriakou and suggested Mr. Giuliani could help. But “it’s going to cost $2 million — he’s going to want two million bucks,” Mr. Kiriakou recalled the associate saying.

“I laughed. Two million bucks — are you out of your mind?” Mr. Kiriakou said. “Even if I had two million bucks, I wouldn’t spend it to recover a $700,000 pension.”

........In August, The New York Times reported that former CIA officer John Kiriakou broached the topic with Mr Giuliani during a meeting at the Washington, DC hotel Mr Trump’s company ran between 2016 and 2022.

Mr Kiriakou, who in 2012 was sentenced to nearly three years in prison for disclosing classified information, told the Times that one of Mr Giuliani’s associates at the meeting said the ex-New York City mayor could assist him — for a price.

“It’s going to cost $2 million — he’s going to want two million bucks,” he recalled the Giuliani associate as saying.

He also told the Times that he did not pursue a pardon through Mr Giuliani because he could not afford to pay him $2 million.

“I laughed. Two million bucks — are you out of your mind?” Kiriakou told the outlet. “Even if I had two million bucks, I wouldn’t spend it to recover a $700,000 pension,” he said.

We speak with John Kiriakou, a former CIA analyst and case officer who exposed the Bush-era torture program and was the only official jailed in connection to it, about the pardon system. He says an associate of Trump personal attorney Rudy Giuliani offered him a pardon for $2 million, which Kiriakou declined to pay.

there are several things that became apparent: She was already trying to get out of an abusive relationship, and Rudy promised to help her. I think he quickly recognized that like a lot abused women she was vulnerable and susceptible to manipulation. He promised her a very substantial salary but kept putting off paying her because he didn't want his ex-wife to find out how much he would pay an assistant (trying to hide money from his ex during a divorce). By the time he started demanding sex from her she was financially trapped and psychologically intimidated and if she refused she'd be out on the street, since she had no income at all other than the small amounts he paid her under the table, and she'd have no more help getting away from her abusive ex.

I wish I didn't feel this way, but it is hard for me to feel sympathy for a 10m grab. She could have had some self respect and found a shelter for battered women. Most of these are well funded and provide necessary psychological support. The good that will come out of this is the discovery and her recordings implicating Trump et al.

Only women are the sluts who will do anything for money, amirite?

You do realize that the women in these domestic abuse shelters don't get to stay forever...right? Most of them let people stay around a month, and the ones who allow them to stay longer are very few indeed. Given the price of apartments, and the necessary funds to get a lease on one, the average unemployed women won't get the money together to get an apartment in a month. So what happens when she can't stay at the shelter after that month? She's homeless, that's what. Then she has to rely on those shelters, which usually offer a bed--if one can be had--for only a night.

Shelters work if you have resources to get from there to a safer place. But they aren't very much help to women in quite dire straits. So tell me what you would do if you were a woman facing living homeless, and a wealthy, powerful man was "offering to help."

This scumbag was abusing her by taking advantage of her in her time of need. That's still coercion, no matter how anybody slices it. And a coerced sex act is sexual assault, at a minimum.

Real life is far more complicated than your simplistic and misogynistic notions of women "using" poor, pitiful rich men who abuse them to "get a payday."

Do keep up.

It speaks volumes about yourself. You've obviously been hurt or abused yourself and are taking a very defensive posture. You can't speak for this woman's state of mind and what her motives are, you can only guess. Unlike E.J.C. I see a dollar figure. If I had to guess, I'd bet it's the attorney that's looking for a payday but so what. I think Rudy is a slime and deserves whatever the legal system can dish out.

Sexual abuse is based on power, not lust. Misogynists like Rudy feel powerful when they can make a woman dependent on them for everything and force them to have sex in a demeaning and subordinate way. If she had no self-respect it's because her abusive ex had taken away a lot of it already, and Rudy, sensing that, destroyed the rest of it and made her effectively his slave. And a women's shelter wouldn't have been the answer because they offer only temporary housing. Eventually it became psychologically impossible for her to walk away - in the end he fired her because after the events of 1/6 she told him she was afraid of him. (Complaint, p. 42) Attitudes like yours are one reason why it's so difficult for women to fight back against abusive men.
