Arizona man arrested after random shooting spree leaves 4 dead, 1 injured

An Arizona man has been arrested after he allegedly shot five people on Friday and Saturday in a random shooting spree, leaving four dead and one injured, police said.

Police arrested Iren Byers, 20, Saturday on four charges of first degree murder and one charge of attempted murder after officials with the Mesa Police Department allegedly saw him on video footage near the scene of multiple shootings that occurred Friday and Saturday. One shooting, in Phoenix, left one dead on Friday afternoon, and the other shootings, in Mesa, left three dead and one injured late Friday and early Saturday. Byers allegedly confessed to the shootings once in custody, police said.

The injured victim in Mesa, a 36-year-old woman, is in stable condition and will undergo surgery for serious injuries, according to Detective Brandi George, public information officer for the police department. Police found her with gunshot wounds around 12:15 a.m. Saturday at Main and Stewart streets.

George added detectives believe Byers “has a lot of different motives” and that the shootings were random, adding that authorities also “suspect there may be some mental illness there.”

1. It seems like most of the killers are disturbed young men

could our culture be the reason that it is mostly male? Is there not enough self acceptance and respect for themselves because many seem to be responding with violence that have been bullied and shamed in the past.
I think it is past time to stop bullying in school. Call the parent of the bullier tell them to take their kid home immediately and not to return until the attitude has been corrected. Yet I see in our culture the class system and the stinking attitude of some of our more well to do people, like not in my neighborhood stuff.
Instead of just ignoring the problems in our society decent people try to figure out a solution.After all people are the same as you not an "other" which you treat in a manner you would not want to be treated.

the US is unique in that mental illness mostly impacts white guys with guns. The solution is more guns.

My favorite is when some white guy explains me how there isn't any mental illness anywhere in the middle east. Terrorist groups have impeccable mental health plans that cured all their members.

Hate groups, terrorist groups, etc. recruit mentally unstable angry failures looking for someone to blame. With terrorism and mass shootings, there is often a suicide component.

The US has the violence problem it does because it has free access to guns and a culture that condones bigotry against everyone who isn't white, straight, christian, right-wing and male. But being male is usually enough, all on its own.

19. I was at this apartment complex during the arrest.

Palm Cove apartments Saturday at about 1 pm. I was there on some business and when I came back to my car the police would not let me get near it because it was blocked by police cars and in the line of fire from the apartment. So I had to wait about 2 hours sitting on a curb until they finally got the man to surrender.
