Trump lawyer said to have been waved off searching office for secret records
Source: The Guardian
Exclusive: Evan Corcoran said he was steered away from Trumps office, where the FBI later found the most sensitive materials
Donald Trumps lawyer tasked with searching for classified documents at Mar-a-Lago after the justice department issued a subpoena told associates that he was waved off from searching the former presidents office, where the FBI later found the most sensitive materials anywhere on the property.
The lawyer, Evan Corcoran, recounted that several Trump aides had told him to search the storage room because that was where all the materials that had been brought from the White House at the end of Trumps presidency ended up being deposited.
Corcoran found 38 classified documents in the storage room. He then asked whether he should search anywhere else but was steered away, he told associates. Corcoran never searched Trumps office and told prosecutors that the 38 papers were the extent of the material at Mar-a-Lago.
The assertion that there were no classified documents in Trumps office or elsewhere proved to be wrong when the FBI retrieved 101 classified documents months afterwards, including from the office, which was found to be where the most highly classified documents had been located.

(70,635 posts)... talked about this to the G.J..
Washington An attorney for former President Donald Trump testified for over three hours before a federal grand jury convened by special counsel Jack Smith, who is investigating the potential mishandling of documents with classified markings, according to two people familiar with the matter.
Evan Corcoran was spotted in the federal courthouse in Washington, D.C., on Friday, ahead of his expected testimony, and made his way to the area of the building where grand juries hear testimony. These proceedings are sealed from public view under federal law.
Prosecutors are interested in knowing more about Trump's communications with Corcoran who appeared before a grand jury once before and claimed attorney-client privilege and planned to question him about notes and voice memos he was compelled to turn over, one of the sources said.
A federal judge ruled Corcoran's claims of attorney-client privilege over certain topics were invalid and compelled the lawyer to answer questions about aspects of his work with Trump and turn over evidence to investigators based on the "crime-fraud exception."

The unskilled, no followup, time limited, scripted,, not under oath tv talking head interviews and ensuing commentary are
worse than useless in chasing the same Truth.
Its like the difference between Twitter Evidence Law 101 and Columbia Law School Evidence 101.

he didn't recuse when he was "waved off from searching Trump's office"..he didn't say "see ya" when he was forced to testify before the federal grand jury...
Corcoran, like the rest of the Trump disenchanted, knew damn well what Trump was long before he signed on as Trump's counsel...he had no qualms instructing idiot Christina Bobb to affix her name to a letter certifying all sensitive government documents had been returned when he knew that was a lie...so now he's playing duped victim, trying desperately to save his long gone reputation..too late...MAGA (Make Attorneys Get Attorneys)

(3,426 posts)He came clean, broke the story, and went to prison for his part in the cover-up.
Mr. Corcoran can look to history to see what's ahead. Maybe with a boat load of incriminating evidence and testimony for Smith, he can get probation. He won't be needing his law books however.
He provided (over Bobb's signature) deceptive and incomplete responses to the subpoena. I am not a lawyer, but that seems to be enough to get disbarred at the minimum.

the charges that will come from those actions. Evan has also covered his ass by Trump and his
associates telling him that there were no documents in other rooms at Merde a Logo and by getting
Trump's NY/NJ parking lot lawyer (Bobb) to sign off there were no more documents @ his buildings
@ his Florida golf place.

(7,870 posts)and the fraud-crime exception came into play, and he was forced to testify before the grand jury, Corcoran had to have known he was in a shit-ton of legal trouble...also, once he testified truthfully (no attorney/client privilege) Trump saw him as disloyal, unwilling to take a bullet..Corcoran had to go...whether he was pushed or shoved is anybody's guess
Botany
(70,635 posts).... and he has his notes saying so too and I'm sure that he said as much in front of Smith's Grand Jury. Although
I have my doubts about Mr. Corcoran but I don't think he is willing to go down on the Trum-Tanic.

(7,870 posts)abandoned ship as well..he did, however humiliate himself with that ridiculous letter to the House Intelligence Committee pleading for some sort of intervention with the DOJ because (get this) Trump was a victim of slopping packing, blaming the White House aides for haphazardly throwing classified files into boxes..and then Parlatore's Trump as-victim-defense went down the toilet via the CNN Trump's clown show and crowd masturbation rally. at that point, having been made a fool of, Parlatore resigned

(3,407 posts)Don't these people learn anything? All those years of hard work in college, working their butts off to establish a name for themselves and then risk to have their name trashed because they decide to work for a corrupt madman. Don't they see that 99.99% of the people who engage with trump end up under the bus with their names trashed, their careers broken?
What is it with these people? It cannot be the money because by now they have to know that trump doesn't pay...can someone please explain?
Oh, and they have to know that the probabilities that the buffoon is guilty are very high, so why engage in a loosing proposition?
