The Meta units systems for fostering communities have guided users to child-sex content; company says it is improving internal controls

Instagram, the popular social-media site owned by Meta META {snip}Platforms, helps connect and promote a vast network of accounts openly devoted to the commission and purchase of underage-sex content, according to investigations by The Wall Street Journal and researchers at Stanford University and the University of Massachusetts Amherst.

With blatant hashtags, a pedophile network has flourished on Instagram. The platform doesnt merely host these activities. Its algorithms have actively promoted them.

This could be the work of a competitor.
But at minimum provides a proof-of-concept that Meta needs to do a better job of preventing (should it be real, or someday become real).
