Leader of Wagner mercenaries says forces entered Russian city of Rostov facing no resistance
Source: PBS News Hour
MOSCOW (AP) The owner of the Wagner private military contractor made his most direct challenge to the Kremlin yet on Friday, calling for an armed rebellion aimed at ousting Russias defense minister. The security services reacted immediately by calling for the arrest of Yevgeny Prigozhin and opening a criminal investigation.
In a sign of how seriously the Kremlin was taking the threat, security was heightened in Moscow and in Rostov-on-Don, which is home to the Russian military headquarters for the southern region and also oversees the fighting in Ukraine.
While the outcome of the confrontation was still unclear, it appeared likely to further hinder Moscows war effort as Kyivs forces were probing Russian defenses in the initial stages of a counteroffensive.
Prigozhin claimed early Saturday that his forces had crossed into Russia from Ukraine and had reached Rostov, saying they faced no resistance from young conscripts at checkpoints and that his forces arent fighting against children.

(114,507 posts)but the pilots refused. My guess is that the AF brass refused, saying it would be better to take them out on the open road.
I say "someone" because Putin is still missing.
I believe there will only be a few blind Putin loyalist that will stick out like a sore thumb....not going to succeed.... This is the much awaited internal Russian revolt in progress.

(114,507 posts)but I predict the Wagner forces now in Russia are not going to go away quietly and they're sure as hell in no mood to sign contracts with the regular military. That's where the real trouble will come from.

Putin says Wagner's "betrayal" is a "stab in the back of our country and our people"
https://www.cnn.com/europe/live-news/russia-ukraine-war-news-06-24-23/index.html
From CNN's Josh Pennington
Russian President Vladimir Putin said Wagner's "betrayal" and "any actions that fracture our unity," are "a stab in the back of our country and our people."
"What we are facing is precisely betrayal. Excessive ambition and vested interests have led to treason. Betrayal of one's country, one's people, and the cause for which the soldiers and commanders of the Wagner group had fought and died, side by side with our other units," Putin said.
Putin called Wagner actions "internal treachery," saying that "all kinds of political adventurers and foreign forces, who divided the country and tore it apart, profited from their own interests. We will not let this happen again. We will protect both our people and our statehood from any threats, including internal treachery.".....................
