alito and his darling wife are turning out to be as scumbaggy as thomas and his lovely spouse.
well actually at least alito's wife is not a traitorous insurrectionist, as far as we know anyhow.

If it was then my family since the 1920s should be ashamed of signing these leases for exploration on their crop lands. Where do you think domestic gas comes from?

acre, I signed for drilling rights for $10000 and 17% royolties. If you don't take the money for drilling they just drill anyway
and give you a stipend for royalties. I am also an heir to my Great Grandfathers mineral rights on 30 acres of land in WV.
My Great Grandfather died in 1919. That 30 acres may be divided among dozens of heirs today. So far I haven't been made an offer
but if they do make an offer and you don't take it, same thing they drill and give you a stipend for royalties. In this case I don't see where it is any kind of issue unless there is a lot more to it.

10 acre site in Texas passed on by her grandfather. Many years ago, she got $10 (yes, TEN DOLLARS) for the right to drill plus she would get 1/12 of the wellhead price if they found oil. The other 11/12 is owned by various relatives most of which she doesn't know. Some of them had 1/124 as it was divided up based on how many grandkids and then divided to their offspring if they were dead. By now, there are probably 1/48 owners and possibly even 1/196.

Apparently, they did not find oil or did not drill. There went our chances to buy a white Cadillac convertible with the longhorn cattle horns in front.

A few years later, another company came along and we demanded $100 and got it. Once again, no Cadillac.

Since then, no offers.

So you are right, it all depends on how big the plot is and how much one can get for the rights to the oil.

She doesn't own the land. Her grandfather sold that when he was alive but kept the mineral rights.

COURT FOR SALE

LYRICS by Don Caron

We always knew that congressmen
were available for sale
And you could purchase them from anywhere
even if you were in jail
And now there’s even better news
to get your private interests to advance.
I mean financed
‘cause the Supreme Court’s up for sale
and it don't involve blackmail.
It’s a song and dance, benefits enhanced

It seems Supreme Court justices
have at least one billionaire
that they ride around on jets with
and never pay a fare
Then make decisions favoring
the guy who paid the bill
They don’t have to follow rules
and they prob’ly never will

Judge Alito got himself
a 100,000 dollar ride
to a luxury vacation
no quid pro quo was implied
Of course that didn't have an impact
when it finally was the time to decide,
took that in stride
On a case involving all those folks
that gave him those lavish strokes
No ethics were ever applied.

For the last two decades Court Supreme
has gutted all the laws
that kept the powerful from buying
public servants for their cause
Their cause was nothing more than self interest
to the greatest of degrees
So now the wealthiest can buy
all the access that they please

That’s why Clarence Thomas thinks his actions
are of no import
Although he’s taken millions from claimants
who come before the court
Luxury vacations, private schools,
trips on jets and trips on yachts:
the things he plots
Undisclosed despite the rules
the public that he thinks he fools
As a judge he is ersatz

The Supreme court turns a blind eye
to its self-corrupting course
Any rules that apply
they’re designated to enforce
Self-regulation not a strong point
with the human race
they can’t be fired from their job
so they don’t need to save face

It seems Supreme Court justices
have at least one billionaire
that they ride around on jets with
and never pay a fare
They always sing the same old song
innocent as a dove
They say that they’ve done nothing wrong
Who does that remind you of?

We've got plenty of legitimate issues with the court. Let's not muddy the waters with problems that don't exist.
