Robert F. Kennedy Jr: COVID-19 was specifically engineered to avoid harming Jews
Source: Jerusalem Post
Democratic presidential candidate Robert F. Kennedy Jr. was caught on camera spouting antisemitic COVID-19 conspiracies regarding the COVID-19 pandemic and Jewish people at a press event. The footage was obtained and released by the New York Post on July 15.
Kennedy, the nephew of former US president John F. Kennedy, claimed that COVID-19 was a bioweapon that had been specifically engineered to impact white and black people, but to spare both Jewish and Chinese.
"There is an argument that [COVID-19] is ethnically targeted," says Kennedy in the video. "COVID-19 attacks certain races disproportionately. COVID-19 is targeted to attack Caucasians and black people. The people who are most immune are Ashkenazi Jews and Chinese.
"We don't know whether it was deliberately targeted or not but there are papers out there that show the racial or ethnic differential and impact," he added.

And he has the balls to deny he said that, despite being on video:

(6,115 posts)I do. They were shamed into oblivion. Now there's no such thing as shame anymore.
But just think what he's saying: scientists in Wuhan worked diligently to cause a global pandemic that would target all races but specifically NOT target Jews (which one could argue is more of a belief than a race although it's both).
I'll never completely understand the mechanism behind conspiracy thinking. Instead of going for the easiest, most logical explanation (such has certain ethnicities having a better or worse immune response to certain viruses), they make up some crazy theory to fit their brand of hate. AND PEOPLE FOLLOW THAT SHIT. That's the scariest part.

They both exist
They both are incomprehensible.
They're both awkward icebreaker conversation subjects.

Viewers are now so conditioned to watch movies where there is non-stop action that they can no longer sit and watch 2001 A Space Odyssey because it is so slow moving. Movies also spout a bunch of outlandish and implausible plots, so they are being accustomed to thinking that way. They need that constant rise of endorphins to keep going. FOX news always shows those Red Alert messages every 10-15 minutes and plays beeps and tones to drive the 'runner's high' in their viewers to keep them addicted to watching. When they turn off TV, they experience withdraw symptoms.

(6,115 posts)Conspiracy theories have no basis in fact.
ExWhoDoesntCare
(4,741 posts)Is stupidity, be it natural or willfully ingrained.
Most conspiracy fools have learned, at the hands of effective brainwashers, not to trust those who deal in reality, like scientists or, well, anyone who is expert in a subject, be it math, history, geography, psychology--doesn't matter the topic. Experts are not experts to them, but some kind of evil at work to destroy their world.
A substantial percentage of conspiracy theorists have been brainwashed since birth that faith is superior to reason and facts. They're the people brainwashed to deny reality if it conflicts with their beliefs.
Not all of them are religious, but a good many are, because religion is one of humanity's most effective brainwashing tools. But it can happen to all kinds of people, for many different reasons. Various forms of senility, a traumatic head injury or prolonged substance abuse can make an otherwise sane person become a gullible fool.
And then there are people that you just can't figure the cause.
Example: Linus Pauling, a brilliant person in his work as a scientist, but a shockingly bloody fool when it came to Vitamin C.
I don't know what causes otherwise brilliant people to believe crazy bollocks, but something happens to their brains that makes them impervious to reality when it comes to a particular topic (or topics, as the case may be). It's like they turn off the ability to say, "Is that true?" and jump straight to believing whatever they hear. Maybe they're vulnerable at that time for assorted reasons, such as mental fatigue or emotional strain. Or maybe it's arrogance that they are so smart, they don't have to verify anything. If it "makes sense" to them, that's good enough, because they're so smart donchaknow?
But something makes their minds weak enough to stop questioning and simply believe.
Novara
(6,115 posts)And the country is sorely lacking critical thinking skills, period, so even smart people don't learn how to question.
Remember adages like "if it sounds too good to be true, it probably is"? I'm old enough to remember QUESTION AUTHORITY bumperstickers. It seems I grew up in an era where people were more skeptical. I even had a class in logic when I was young. No one actually teaches it anymore and with the plethora of online lies, people without critical thinking skills can't tell the difference between true reporting and made-up bullshit. Fuck, Fox "News" calls itself news; it is not. For that matter, neither is msnbc most of the time: it's opinion masquerading as news. With those lines so blurred, it's no surprise there's a ready-made audience willing to suck up whatever their bubble tells them. "I saw it on TV! It must be true!"

(23,082 posts)Does the virus look up your genetic profile on ancestry.com? 123.com? Do we really know that much about ethic/genetic susceptibility to a virus?
ExWhoDoesntCare
(4,741 posts)But some disorders and diseases do have a higher risk within specific genetic/ethnic populations. For example, sickle cell anemia for black people is definitely genetic, and Tay-Sachs for some communities like Ashkenazi Jews, Acadians, Cajuns and the Amish (all populations of Europe that have been excluded/insular) have indications of it.
The sickle cell anemia gene (not the condition) may even be a mutation in response to malaria. Those who carry the gene from only one parent, but don't have the disorder itself, seem to have a higher resistance to malaria; however, those who get the disorder because both parents were sickle cell carriers tend to have a higher likelihood of succumbing to malaria. Something still being studied, of course, but learning more about the possible genetic relationship between sickle cell and malaria could unlock clues to combating both of them.

(3,720 posts)People who make outlandish statements like this need to have proof. A whistleblower's testimony, an authenticated leaked document. Something.
It may be possible to create a virus that would target certain specific genetic ancestries. But I think there'd be more evidence of this somewhere in the scientific medical community.
For RFK to say that the virus was designed to not affect Ashkenazi Jews, this smacks of the "Jews own the world" trope which is patently anti-Semitic.
This man is dangerous to Democrats and to America. It's bad enough we have to put in extra effort and dollars getting our candidates elected. Now, we have to expend resources to be sure that whackjobs like this don't get elected and won't impact the ability of our people to win.
