Former lawmaker says Trump asked him to overturn the 2020 election

Source: NBC News

Former Rep. Mo Brooks is “mildly surprised” that special counsel Jack Smith’s office has not sought a meeting with him to discuss his accusations that former President Donald Trump urged him to help “rescind” the 2020 election and “violate the U.S. Constitution and federal law.”

In an interview with NBC News, Brooks, a Republican who represented an Alabama district in Congress, said he would meet with prosecutors if requested. “Yeah, if they asked me to, I’d explain what I know about it. Whether it’s relevant or material, I’m not sure,” he said, continuing: “I was shocked [Trump] was so blatant about it — illegal conduct.”

Brooks left Congress earlier this year, after losing a primary contest for the Alabama Senate seat. He had been backed by Trump, who then withdrew his supported and backed now-Sen. Katie Britt.

Brooks previously said that Trump had made requests to overturn the 2020 election as late as September 2021 — more than seven months after his exit from the White House.

Although from what we saw in the last election, an endorsement by TFG had a negative effect - not to mention the clowns he chose to endorse...

I think Brooks (IIRC), after helping to incite the insurrection, eventually threw 45 under the bus once he started getting sued so 45 threw him under a bigger bus!

And yeah, it was a shame that Doug Jones didn't try again for that Senate seat (he had lost re-election in 2020 to Tuberville for the other seat).

He has so far not been interviewed... Although from what I understand, most of the Congressional insurrectionists haven't been rolled in yet (except maybe Scott Perry, who had his phone taken last year).

As it is, trying to navigate charging any of them would require finding a definitive way around the "Speech and Debate" clause that they will invoke (something Lindsey Graham kept insisting on when he tried to get out of Fani Willis' GA investigation).

But the ultimate objective needs to be holding the one who attempted to overthrow the government responsible. Those who have been identified, charged, tried, convicted and jailed were just "following orders" because they believed the lies.

Though I'm also wondering about those in Congress who supposedly gave "tours" - during a time when "tourists" were not allowed to visit the Capitol due to Covid. We began hearing about an investigation into that - but nothing since.

the break-in happened in 1972, the lower level thieves were put on trial (at least those who didn't plead guilty), the following year, and the court battles ensued when they found out about the tapes, and as they were prepping for Impeachment, Nixon finally decided to resign - 2 years after the break-in that summer of 1974 (I remember it was literally almost a month after my dad died).

And in that case, the whole fiasco was way way simpler than this monstrosity that DOJ is navigating, with layer upon layer of elected officials and political leadership within the Republican party from multiple states.

However, the main difference was that it took the Republicans to bring Nixon down. The current REpublican party is willing to lie, cheat and steal (elections) in order to support TFG (McCarthy).

It was Jimmy Carter who changed that, having Mondale move his office closer to his and giving him his own independent responsibilities. Not to mention, we know that traditionally new presidents often turn to predecessors for help and advice - and the one who sought advice from Eisenhower was LBJ.

Pendejo45 endorse him for Senate, then rescinded his endorsement, then endorsed Brooks opponent.

This is just Brook's way of paying Pendejo45 back for rescinding & endorsing opponent.
