Juvenile charged in fatal shooting of 8-year-old Jenesis Dockery
Source: ABC News
A juvenile was arrested and charged with the fatal shooting of Jenesis Dockery, an 8-year-old girl who, according to her family, was shot while she was at her babysitter's house in Fayetteville, North Carolina, on July 25. Jenesis was transported to a hospital, where she died two days later.
Jenesis' funeral was held last Wednesday and before charges were filed her family had been calling for justice and accountability since her death on July 27.
The Cumberland County Sheriffs Office told ABC News in a statement on Tuesday that Special Victims Unit detectives detained the juvenile offender charged with the shooting on Aug. 11 and the juvenile is now in the custody of the Department of Juvenile Justice (DJJ).
This has been a horrible nightmare; still doesn't feel real, Jenesis father, Fon Dockery, said during a press conference on Thursday. It's hard to put into words how we're trying to navigate three weeks later for something to be done. We wore orange pins on the day we buried our daughter for gun violence awareness because as much as we want justice for our daughter, this is something no parent should ever have to do.

(14,367 posts)Sadly, there is only one solution to all of the gun violence in this country; but too many Democrats will join a united Republican front in making sure that solution is never implemented.

Locking away the ammo is just so easy.

This has to stop. Gun ownwers have to be charged for their outright carelessness in the storage of their deadly weapons.
There is no excuse for this. An 11 year old kid shoudld never be able to access somefones gun without their supervision.
Time to jail the owners. Every time. None of this. They've suffered enodugh... crap.

(1,296 posts)I see calls for incarcerating the 11 year old child who had access to a gun. Nope, the adults are primarily responsible for keeping guns out of the reach of children.
what that 11 year old child needs is some therapy to figure out how to manage their feelings and learn that guns are not the solution to anything.
And our country has failed both the 11 year old and the younger gun victim because we wont allow more restrictive gun ownership laws. F the 2nd amendment.
