Sinema calls for Biden admin and Tuberville to find 'middle ground' in abortion standoff

This discussion thread was locked as off-topic by ificandream (a host of the Latest Breaking News forum).

Source: NBC News

Sen. Kyrsten Sinema, the Arizona independent who left the Democratic Party last year, is calling on both the Biden administration and Sen. Tommy Tuberville, R-Ala., to soften their positions and find a “middle ground” on a Pentagon policy involving abortion in order to end the Republican's monthslong blockade of hundreds of military promotions.

According to a recording obtained by NBC News, Sinema told a meeting of the Greater Phoenix Chamber of Commerce last week that she has “offered” to help both sides come to a consensus.

“I know that Coach does not want to undermine the readiness of our United States military,” Sinema said, referring to the former college football coach by his preferred title. “And I know that the United States military and the administration does not want to undermine the authority and the right of any United States senator. What we need are for folks to step off a little bit from their positions and find that middle ground to solve the challenge that we’re facing.”

“I’ve volunteered to help do that,” she added. “We’ll see if they take me up on the offer.”

I sincerely hope Sinema finds herself pregnant, with no access to care. Toss a nonviable fetus in for good measure. The only way some people learn is through personal experience. Let her see that there is no middle ground.

Tuberville needs to be sued, ejected, defrocked, whatever. He committed fraud to get elected, not residing in the state he ran in, doesn't matter where his Mama has a house.

Sinema is a total fucking twit. The only good thing about her tenure in the Senate will be its brevity.

Senate Democrats share some of the blame for not managing to eliminate the filibuster. Maybe this particular abuse of power will finally do it. It has to go.

I doubt Tub-ville really gives a damn about pregnancies and abortion. I wouldn't doubt he may have paid off several abortions for pregnancies caused by some of his college players when he was a coach. (NOTE: Obviously, I have no direct knowledge to validate or refute this claim.)

He's just strutting to show that he can flex his muscle. That is part of the problem with how the senate rules are structured. It's structured so that the rules can be severely misused while their purposeful, positive uses are mainly palliative.

Kyrsten — can I call you Kyrsten? It sounds so chummy, sisterly even, like we might be sharing a couple of girly drinks while you sport your colorful “Fuck Off” ring.

Anyway — here’s my wish for you: every kind of pregnancy-related disaster right inside your personal body. Don’t think that could happen? Well I was 53 when I went in for a perimenopausal ultrasound and the technician discovered a fully ripened egg follicle. So yeah, it can happen.

And because I suspect you don’t think it could ever be your problem, may you stall for a couple of months before going to your doc to find out why you have a tippy tummy all the time. After that, may every pharmacist, nurse, and doc you encounter on your subsequent journey invoke the “conscience clause” and let you know in no uncertain terms that they can’t help you.

May it happen.
