Proud Boy on house arrest in Jan. 6 case disappears ahead of sentencing
Source: AP
WASHINGTON (AP) Authorities are searching for a member of the Proud Boys extremist group who disappeared days before his sentencing in a U.S. Capitol riot case, where prosecutors are seeking more than a decade in prison, according to a warrant made public Friday.
Christopher Worrell of Naples, Florida, was supposed to be sentenced Friday after being found guilty of spraying pepper spray gel on police officers, as part of the mob storming the Capitol as Congress was certifying Joe Bidens presidential victory on Jan. 6, 2021. Prosecutors had asked a judge to sentence him to 14 years.
The sentencing was canceled and a warrant for his arrest issued under seal on Tuesday, according to court records. The U.S. attorneys office for Washington D.C. encouraged the public to share any information about his whereabouts.
Worrell had been on house arrest in Florida since his release from jail in Washington in November 2021, less than a month after a judge substantiated his civil-rights complaints about his treatme

(17,802 posts)hopefully someone who was under surveilance.
But even if a nobody, you can't get far in FL without having a license plate scanned. traffic lights, highways, fast food, just about anywhere cars queue up get scanned. Wouldn't be hard for a computer to find someone who came into sthat area of the tate for a few minutes and left again.
Then there are all the ring doorbells in the neighborhood, and delivery drivers with dashcams that can be subpoenad, and you ain't all that invisible anymore. Welcome to the surveilance society.

(30,178 posts)I can think of a hundred ways to avoid being seen, but they all require an accomplice. But depending where they live, crawl out a back window at 3 am, walk through the woods where Billy Bob is waiting for you in his RV. Drive a state or two over, never has to leave the vehicle. Thats just one idea.

(4,741 posts)Because criminals never steal someone else's plates, or acquire stolen plates, and put them on their own cars.
Because they never get access to another car from someone or somewhere else, legally or not.
Because they never have friends with cars who will spirit them away.
Because they never hitchhike.
I'll bet his own car is either in his garage, or has someone else's plates on it. Even MAGAts know how to get around a license plate search. The trackers will do that search, but it's a long shot for finding this traitor. It's still too easy to beat that LEO maneuver.
As for the cameras, that isn't a sure thing, either. Yes, we have a surveillance society--but it's not 100%. We had surveillance for the DC wannabe-bomber. See anyone arrested for that? No? Then guess what? Surveillance can be beaten, if you're clever enough. Or lucky enough. The sheer number of cameras out there could indeed help. But it's not a guarantee.
getagrip_already
(17,802 posts)I meant that whatever car was used, the plate was picked up coming and going. It could have been a stolen plate. And police will search for stolen plates being picked up on those systems close by in that time, then track where they went and on what vehicles and who was inside.
Not perfect, but it can start the trail of crumbs.
And lets not forget how truly stupid most people actually are. As much as tv hows and da intertubes like to make everyone out to be some super-spy, they aren't. they are bumbling idiots in most cases who get one or two things right andd 20 wrong.
So lets wait a few weeks and see if he is still missing. Maybe yes. Maybe no.

He died last year, and as far as I know no one from the family attended his funeral. He was not well liked, to put it mildly.

Hell imagine hes hunkering down somewhere safe, creating more accomplices, until hes ratted out or the obvious trail of cars, video footage, etc. is followed. Then hell express himself to law enforcement with a high powered rifle.
The good news: lots of extra MAGAt arrests for helping him try to disappear.

(4,741 posts)He's not going on the lam.
It astounds me how people think that someone can flee the country when he's as famous as he is, with so many federal eyes on him, with few friends overseas who will turn a blind eye to that fat pig landing in their country, and with too few of the resources necessary to make a clean getaway (his plane can't fly just anywhere without refueling if he wants to make it to an extradition-free country).
And never mind how he won't run away, because his ego won't let him be seen as backing down, and he's too arrogant to think he can possibly lose in court.
He's not going anywhere.
