Capital City Pride pulls out of Mississippi Book Festival in response to Pence visit

JACKSON, Miss. - Mississippi Capital City Pride has withdrawn volunteer support for the Mississippi Book Festival.

They made the decision after learning former Vice President Mike Pence would attend the event in Jackson to promote his book, “So Help Me God.”

“We felt like, as an organization, we couldn’t volunteer this year because he’s everything that we are against,” said Jason McCarty, with Capital City Pride.

The organization has, in past years, hosted a breakfast for the writers. But because Pence, a presidential candidate, has been outspoken about his opposition to same-sex marriage and supports a nationwide ban on gender-affirming care for trans minors, they pulled out of this year’s event.

…going to a book fair? And the people who run the book fair invited him?

Weird.
