Earthquake Rattles Los Angeles as Tropical Storm Pelts the Region

Source: New York Times

A 5.1 magnitude earthquake shook parts of Southern California at 2:41 p.m. local time, according to the United States Geological Survey. It was centered seven kilometers outside Ojai, a small city northwest of Los Angeles.

In Los Angeles's Sliver Lake neighborhood, an earthquake just rattled residents who are hunkered down in their homes as Hilary approached. It was felt just as the rain in the city picked up noticeably.

Of all things to happen. It was 7 KM outside Ojai, CA. Now, my friends who live there say it's not worth getting out of bed for a magnitude 5. Pending more news on this.

Yes. This storm is nothing where I'm living. It may be moving through the east L.A. region. C Moon Aug 2023 #7

new fires, etc.

Those poor people. I can't imagine hunkering down for a hurricane but needing to exit my home due to an earthquake.

A 5.1 in the mountains might wobble the candlesticks, but no houses are collapsing. The storm has been pretty tame so far (at least here in Central LA.)

I do find it rather hilarious that it all happens at once, and at least the rain mitigates fire danger.

We had like a 4.4 earth quake in South Texas one time. This was the meme that went around. I did not feel it.

But zero wind, light rain, no t-storms near Los Angeles ocean.

And while the rain is unusual for August, the storm is much less than what we had earlier this year.

As with all things Hollywood, the media is much worse than the reality

As if #Hilary wasn't enough to contend with, there was just a Magnitude 5.1 #earthquake east of Santa Barbara and north of Oxnard.
