Convicted ex-Ohio House speaker moved to Oklahoma prison to begin his 20-year sentence

Source: ABC News

Convicted former Ohio House Speaker Larry Householder has been transferred to Oklahoma to begin his time in federal prison.

The 64-year-old Republican had been held in the Butler County Jail in southwestern Ohio since he was sentenced June 29 to 20 years for his role in the largest corruption scheme in Ohio history.

Householder and lobbyist Matt Borges, a former chair of the Ohio Republican Party, were convicted in March of conspiracy to participate in a racketeering enterprise involving bribery and money laundering.

A jury found Householder masterminded and Borges participated in a $60 million bribery scheme that was secretly funded by Akron-based FirstEnergy Corp. to secure Householder's power, elect his allies — and then to pass and defend legislation that delivered a $1 billion nuclear power plant bailout of two nuclear plants that were owned by a FirstEnergy affiliate. FirstEnergy also has admitted to its role.

I can think of my ex-home fine state of NY as an example of shenanigans (and crimes) as an example.

Still, the repugs since the 1960s have a winning lead on corruption from the federal down to the local level.

are going to pay with massive fines and actual lock-up times.

It's great to snare another set of corrupt government officials, but until the corporations start paying with skin behind bars it won't have any effect.

Same for any corporate malfeasance. Hold the operators and owners responsible.

No more fines. Those are only a "cost of doing business". We need to see some corporate butts in jail. First Energy then do Wells Fargo.

The Republican party isn't screaming about political persecution and weaponization of government over this guy? He committed crimes like Trump, but he gets no support from his party. I guess he should have changed his name to Trump, lol.

Regarding First Energy, the change-of-ownership transactions over the past five years are interesting. An investment firm with headquarters split between Taiwan and India is the major stakeholder. The global economy provides exciting opportunities for international investments. However, the bribery is unacceptable, and the paid-off former state legislator faced judgment.

I can't fine an earlier post, but in addition:

They let FE depreciate their power plants to drop their tax payments to the local schools and cities, then tell the municipalities to borrow from the state fund

They pushed an effort to view the bill as a patriotic way to protect Ohio from Chinese communists

Ohio gave FE money to fix their own damn plants that they left in horrible conditions. The nuclear power plant in Sandusky (Cedar Point area on Lake Erie) nearly lost it's entire cooling system due to neglect by FE.

They allowed a huge rate increase to keep FE's profitability

on, and on, and on
