McConnell showed 'no evidence' of a seizure disorder or stroke, Capitol doctor says

Source: NBC News

In a new letter, Capitol attending physician Brian Monahan confirmed that he examined Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell after his freeze-up last week and that “there is no evidence” the Republican has a seizure disorder or “experienced a stroke, TIA or movement disorder such as Parkinson’s disease.”

“My examination of you following your August 30, 2023 brief episode included several medical evaluations: brain MRI imaging, EEG study and consultations with several neurologists for a comprehensive neurology assessment,” Monahan wrote to McConnell, whose office released the letter on Tuesday.

“There is no evidence that you have a seizure disorder or that you experienced a stroke, TIA or movement disorder such as Parkinson’s disease," he continued, referring to a transient ischemic attack.

Monahan added that he recommended no changes to McConnell's treatment protocols as he continues to recover from a fall in March that caused a concussion and sidelined the GOP leader for several weeks.

Evidence he had something wrong with him at that moment. It is not necessarily evidence of a stroke or the other conditions mentioned.

Your train of thought is literally derailed and you are left with literally nothing. Could easily be that following severe concussion. Happened to me following a bad car accident when I was 19. I still have it at 56. Severity can change, but mine never completely went away.

As a teacher, there were times I was left a bit like Mitch.

Key point here is that really doesn't get better.

He was clearly aphasic, twice on camera. It could simply be concussion related. He's apparently fallen more times than has been revealed.

Like Feinstien, McConnell's not going anywhere until they wheel him out. And at this point, he's a moderate Repuke who actually believes in things like funding the Gubmint. Better him than some jackhole like Scott leading the minority.

an exact answer, word for word, to give to certain questions asked of him and it takes a bit for his addled crueled up brain to remember and he doesn’t want to accidentally fall again if he gets it wrong.

I'm sure the good doctor has checked him out when he's gotten unstuck and found him perfectly normal. What he has not done is refer him to a neurologist for a thorough workup.

Something serious is going on and if he doesn't get a diagnosis and appropriate treatment, he's going to manage to injure himself severely or even kill himself in a fall and then Monahan's ass will be sued.

Wonder Why

MM is in the minority, and he can't really do anything. If it was a 50 - 50 Senate, and they were installing a shitload of conservative judges, i might be a little more involved in this.

and everything else (not counting reconciliation or Rules changes) requires 60 votes to proceed (cloture) - meaning ALL (D)s & (I)s that caucus with (D)s + 9 (R)s in order to get anything even up for debate and vote.

So yes, as long as Democrats have less than 60 elected members (that might include (I)s that caucus with us), then he is still a critical piece of the puzzle.
