Trump aide Mark Meadows loses bid to move Georgia election case to federal court

Last edited Fri Sep 8, 2023, 07:04 PM - Edit history (2)

Source: CNBC

A judge on Friday rejected a request by Trump White House chief of staff Mark Meadows to move his Georgia election conspiracy criminal case to federal court in Atlanta. The decision means that Meadows’ case will remain in Fulton County Superior Court, a Georgia state court in Atlanta.

Meadows was indicted with Trump and 17 other co-defendants last month by a grand jury in that court on charges related to their efforts to reverse former President Donald Trump’s loss in Georgia’s 2020 election to President Joe Biden.

Trump’s lawyer on Thursday told a Fulton County judge in a filing that the former president might soon seek to have his own case transferred to federal court. Four other defendants besides Meadows already have made such requests.

U.S. District Judge Steve Jones in a lengthy order in Atlanta federal court Friday said that Meadows has not met his burden to show that moving his case there from Fulton County court was proper under a statute authorizing removing legal cases against federal officers from state courts.

The judge, in a 49 page denial, ripped Meadows a new one. Meadows will be on TV, break out the popcorn and ketchup.

Better jury pool, less chance of others moving to federal courthouse.

Fani wins a big one. Andrew Weissmann said that Meadow's lawyer took a chance putting Meadows on the stand, now, according to Weissmann, Meadows incriminated himself in his testimony that prosecutors will not want to offer a cooperation deal.

Meadows is going down, should have cooperated early on.

I do believe that Trump will be found guilty of at least some crimes. While I would love to see him in prison, so far the DOJ has bent over backwards in its deference to him. I have doubts that they would insist on prison time and maybe just house confinement—what a punishment to be confined to a fancy penthouse apartment in New York or a club in Florida where he could play golf every day and hobnob with his wealthy supporters. I want some accountability for the hell he has put the country through the past several years, and that would not be it.

the judge stated in his denial that the executive branch has no business messing with state's elections. That statement by the judge, according to Katyal, will shoot down trump's attempt to move to federal court.

Bring on the cameras, turn on the lights and watch the cockroaches run like hell.

The appeal is just another hail mary that gives Terwilliger time to work on his plan B and C for his defendant client.

Terwilliger fucked up by putting Meadows on the stand. Meadows incriminated himself which limits him to any cooperation deal.

It was much more than a delay hail mary, Meadows incriminated himself in his testimony and the District judge mentioned that in his decision. The judge was adamant saying that the executive has no business interfering in states' elections, that statement will also apply to Trump.

The only hope left is to testify against The Boss.

Better strike a deal now before someone else grabs one and prosecutors tell you, "Not interested".

he's such a prick. I was listening to a story about him finally agreeing to meet with Biden's Chief of Staff, but he would only do it during Biden's inauguration. Meadows showed up late and basically blew Klain off.

Rot in prison, Mark Meadows.
