WASHINGTON (AP) The Biden administration announced Wednesday that it is providing $600 million in funding to produce new at-home COVID-19 tests and is restarting a website allowing Americans to again order up to four free tests per household aiming to prevent possible shortages during a rise in coronavirus cases that has typically come during colder months.
The Department of Health and Human Services says orders can be placed at COVIDTests.gov starting Sept. 25, and that no-cost tests will be delivered for free by the United States Postal Service.
Twelve manufacturers that employ hundreds of people in seven states have been awarded funding and will produce 200 million over-the-counter tests to replenish federal stockpiles for government use, in addition to producing enough tests to meet demand for tests ordered online, the department said. Federal officials said that will help guard against supply chain issues that sparked some shortages of at-home COVID tests made overseas during past surges in coronavirus cases.
Dawn OConnell, assistant secretary for preparedness and response at HHS, said the website will remain functional to receive orders through the holidays and we reserve the right to keep it open even longer if were starting to see an increase in cases.

(98,146 posts)I booked at CVS and then was notified that I had to reschedule, they didn't have it for my shot Monday. Changed it to today. I asked the man who gave me the shot about it and he said they ran out a few times because of high demand. Good to know so many are getting the shot.
Keep trying, I wasn't able to get a local shot, I had to get one a few towns away.
Good Luck.

The COVIDtests.gov program has distributed over 755 million tests directly to more than two-thirds of American households, 310 million of which went to households in underserved communities. The U.S. government will continue to make COVID-19 tests available to uninsured individuals and underserved communities through existing outreach programs. Please contact a HRSA health center, Test to Treat site, or ICATT location near you to learn how to access low- or no-cost COVID-19 tests provided by the federal government.
