A smidgen of good news for House GOP leaders: Frank Lucas is returning. But there's still attendance problems.

The House Republican's doctor cleared him to return to D.C. starting Sept. 26.

House GOP leadership has an attendance problem right now, but they have some good news headed their way: Rep. Frank Lucas will be back in D.C. next week, just in time for a shutdown deadline.

Lucas (R-Okla.), who was injured while working at his ranch last month, had to undergo hip surgery to repair a break in the socket. But his doctor has cleared him to return to D.C. starting Sept. 26.

Republicans have faced various absences due to health and family reasons, which has made it even more difficult to navigate their slim majority as they consider high-stakes legislation to fund the government. Those absences include Majority Leader Steve Scalise (R-La.) undergoing chemotherapy, the retirement of former Rep. Chris Stewart (R-Utah) and Rep. Anna Paulina Luna (R-Fla.) giving birth to her first child......................

..............Rep. Marcy Kaptur (D-Ohio), who tested positive for Covid on Tuesday, is signaling she might return to the Capitol to give Democrats a crucial vote as the chamber’s spending impasse drags on.

“It’s unfortunate that, while COVID lingers, the Speaker has not established a protocol for members to participate without such machinations,” Kaptur spokesperson Ben Kamens said in a statement. “As a senior member of the defense appropriations subcommittee, due to the gravity of the issue, with the additional potential for a Republican shutdown looming, Congresswoman Kaptur will try and be available for votes as they are called. She will continue to self isolate and follow advice of medical professionals.”

I hope our Dem--Rep. Kaptur tests negative next week.
