Scores of young activists with the Sunrise Movement, a youth-led climate organization, protested in the office of the House speaker, Kevin McCarthy, on Thursday morning, demanding he avert a complete government shutdown.
Capitol police arrested 18 of the youth who blocked the office entrance and refused to vacate until McCarthy pledged to support bridge funding to keep the government open, including to the Federal Emergency Management Agency (Fema).
Today showed that the GOP is nothing but a group of cowards, said Adah Crandall, an 18-year-old Sunrise Movement organizer, in an emailed statement. They chose to arrest a bunch of teenagers instead of facing us. They would rather shut down the government than do their jobs and protect our generation.
The US has already surpassed the total number of billion-dollar disasters seen nationwide last year, national data shows. Amid a shutdown, Fema has said it could spend any leftover funds from its primary disaster fund, but when that money is depleted, officials could struggle to provide necessary aid.

(6,670 posts)I'll never fully understand why some activists feel the need to take big steaming dumps on their allies.

(4,741 posts)Before you can counsel people on making right decisions.
That's the flaw in your assertion.
Think. Again.
(22,456 posts)...do you deny that acting to decrease the damages of climate change is a 'right' decision?
Oopsie Daisy
(6,670 posts)is a wise strategy? Is it "the right decision" for those types of groups to alienate politicians and voters who might otherwise be willing to align themselves with (or support, or volunteer, or donate). Or is their sole interest in virtue-signaling and self-promotion, rather than forming alliances and building trust?
Think. Again.
(22,456 posts)...protesters who are airing their grievances against specific politicians who they believe are failing to act in the nation's best interest, you might want to read the 1st amendment to the United States Constitution.

(22,456 posts)...conducted by climate activists are not actions intended to "shit() on allies and try() to humiliate them in the eyes of the public" or "to alienate politicians and voters who might otherwise be willing to align themselves with (or support, or volunteer, or donate).", but are intended to clearly inform the politicians and the public that the activists have a grievance, it would be YOUR replies that are blatantly using the " Straw Man" tactic.

(6,670 posts)You know perfectly well that Nancy Pelosi did not deserve the treatment she received. Conflating the issues is not helping your cause. They should attack their enemies, not their allies. I, for one, have absolutely zero respect for the "Sunshine Kids" who wrongly chose her as their target rather than someone who truly deserves it.
Think. Again.
(22,456 posts)...the Sunsrise Movement staged a peaceful sit-in.
And not everyone considers those who don't agree with them an enemy.
Oopsie Daisy
(6,670 posts)So, if you want to split hairs, fine. The "peaceful sit-in" was still a form of protest, which I'm sure Pelosi appreciated.
And sure, not everyone considers those who disagree with them enemies...but let's be real, there's plenty of animosity out there, and they chose to target Pelosi, an ally, rather that someone who deserved it.
But... take your pick, believe what you want. It's all the same to me.
Think. Again.
(22,456 posts)..becaus she was in a position to make effective change in the U.S.'s slow approach to climate change.
And yes, I am absolutely sure that Nancy Pelosi greatly appreciates the right of Americans to address, demonstrate, and protest the actions of our elected officials, without any doubt.
Oopsie Daisy
(6,670 posts)Actually, nobody is talking about "the right to protest"... except you... when it suits your purposes of being evasive and trying to change the subject.
But, of course, Pelosi must be so grateful for the opportunity to be protested against. I'm sure she wakes up every morning, kisses the ground, and thanks the universe for the chance to be questioned by these clowns.
Because apparently, those jackasses believe that stalwart Democrats like Pelosi are clueless and that she twiddles her thumbs out of boredom from having "nothing to do" and would never think a thing about climate change without being prodded. And then, somehow, she'll magically come up with the silver bullet that cures everything.
Ridiculous. The all-or-nothing crowd gets NOTHING, yet again. Surprise-surprise.
Excuse me while I roll my eyes.
Think. Again.

(4,741 posts)After J6, this sort of thing won't be tolerated. The traitor thugs are itching for reasons to go after left activists who protest at the Capitol, especially ones getting that close to Congressional reps and their staff.
They need to get smarter about protesting. So far, their methods are underwhelming.

(98,883 posts)on climate change discredited them in my book
Feinstein was always an advocate for the environment
and when she engaged with them, and explained the makeup of the Senate at the time would make it difficult unless funding was provided, and the situation in the Senate would make that difficult, they called her smug
She encouraged their involvement, and voting to accomplish their goals, and they treated her with disrespect
Shame on those kids parents for using their kids in such a disrespectful way
The real enemies were the republicans, and when this group went to mccarthys office, not only wouldnt they engage with them, but they arrest one
The first thing they need to understand is the difference between Democrats and republicans on the environment, and except for Manchin and a couple others, Democrats are advocates of addressing climate change
