US congressman Henry Cuellar was held up at gunpoint while his car was stolen in Washington on Monday evening, according to local media reports.

Mr Cuellar, a Republican from Texas, was reportedly parking about a mile (1.6km) from the US Capitol when he was approached by three armed people.

He was unharmed and his vehicle was later recovered.

Also, not all congresspersons from Texas are Republican.
In this case Cuellar is not a (R), he's a (D).
A quick search on https://cuellar.house.gov/biography/ would have revealed this.
Media shouldn't be so lazy.

Texas Democratic Rep. Henry Cuellar was carjacked in Washington, DC, Monday evening, his office told CNN.

According to Cuellar’s office, the congressman’s sushi dinner, phone, iPad and car were all stolen in the incident, which DC police said occurred around 9:32 p.m. Monday night.

“As Congressman Cuellar was parking his car this evening, 3 armed assailants approached the Congressman and stole his vehicle. Luckily, he was not harmed and is working with local law enforcement. Thank you to Metro PD and Capitol Police for their swift action and for recovering the Congressman’s vehicle,” his chief of staff, Jacob Hochberg, said in a statement.

The armed carjacking took place at the intersection of K Street and New Jersey Avenue in Southeast DC’s Navy Yard neighborhood, according to an alert from the DC Homeland Security and Emergency Management Agency. Police are searching for three male suspects, according to the alert.

He’s a smuck who was put into office by one of the leading Republican donors and he does what he’s told to do by that person.

The “D” beside his name is there because of the District he ran in.

But it’s still ridiculous. America is very violent compared to all the other developed nations.

One of our congressmen got carjacked, had guns pointed at him, he could have been killed.

But because we don't have evidence that his assailants were MAGATS, it's kinda like, "Eh, that sucks. What's next?"

Except for one comment of despair, all the others have simply been pointing out the mistake in the BBC article.

I was getting confused as to his party affiliation because this was reported both ways.
