Israel has re-established control of all the communities that were overrun by Hamas fighters over the weekend, but militants may still be present on its territory, a defence forces spokesperson has said.
The chief military spokesperson, Rear Admiral Daniel Hagari, said the country had drafted a record 300,000 reservists in response to Saturdays surprise, multi-front Hamas attack from Gaza and was going on the offensive.
We are now carrying out searches in all of the communities and clearing the area, he said in a televised briefing on Monday. Military officials had previously said their focus was on securing Israels side of the border before carrying out any major escalation of the counteroffensive in Gaza.
Hagari confirmed reports that 700 people had been killed in Israel a staggering toll by the scale of recent conflicts including at least 73 members of the security forces. The Palestinian health ministry said retaliatory Israeli airstrikes on the Gaza Strip killed more than 100 people overnight on Sunday, bringing the Palestinian death toll since Saturday to 493, with more than 2,750 wounded.

(5,455 posts)death toll of innocent people will probably rise by thousands. If only there were a two-state solution and Hamas was put out of business.

(6,991 posts)Putin wants us to NOT fund Ukraine so he can go marauding over there, go into Poland, take over other countries et al. Bibi gets his ass out of the headlines and out of Israeli citizens mouths, because as a friend told me that while her relatives over in Israel hate Hamas which is understandable because like the Klan over here, they almost, yes almost hate Bibi just as much, and compare him to the 91 indictment having pig over here who also wants to be king dictator of the USA, stay bowing down to Putin, make money off of destroying OUR country, get rid of the US Constitution, and if you notice, tRump is not so keen on his hand-picked opus dei Supreme Court any longer, just like BiBi hates on and wants to dissolve his Supreme Court to keep him out of jail and in power as supreme dictator until his heart condition takes him out. The reivh-wings of these countries are out of damn control, and a detriment to our existence. Putin wants to be dictator of the world also.

(706 posts)Israel has every right to defend themselves and find those responsible and punish them unfortunately the only way they can do it will breed more hatred. Palestinians that live in Gaza that want peace and don't want Hamas can't do anything to stop it because Hamas will just kill them. Even if they didn't it's pretty hard to win an argument that you should live in peace with Israel when Israel is bombing you just like it's hard for Israeli's to win an argument on their side that they should live in peace with Palestinians.
There is absolutely no way out of this, Israel will not and should not go away and the Palestinians will not disappear. The only possible way any of this is solved is if a neighboring country annexes Gaza and the West Bank and guarantees the safety of Israel. Forget about how politically impossible that is it won't happen for practical reasons. None of those countries can support a large population of an impoverished people, even if those people wanted it (which they don't). Even Egypt has a fortified border with Gaza. they don't trust Hamas either.
