Rep. Kevin McCarthy (R-Calif.) said Monday that he is willing to resume serving as House speaker if enough of the Republicans who voted in favor of his ouster last week are open to his reinstatement.
Whatever the conference wants, I will do, McCarthy said during an interview on Hugh Hewitts syndicated radio program when asked about a possible return to the job. He echoed that sentiment hours later at a news conference largely focused on the Israel-Hamas war.
McCarthy made the comments as the House Republican conference prepared to meet for the first time since Tuesday, when eight Republicans joined all Democrats present in voting for McCarthys removal. At that point, McCarthy said he would not run for a leadership role again, saying last week: I will not run for speaker again. Ill have the conference pick somebody else.

(556 posts)His masochism was apparent during his election to Speaker.
Being tossed out makes him quite the loser.
And, now that he wants to do it all over again, the masochist emerges once again.

(60,186 posts)The answer is, "no, nobody does," but if he crawls back, and the Republicans realize they'll never agree on anybody else, he's right that they'll throw up their hands in exasperation and say, "oh, OK, come on back." The Democrats can even humiliate him a little by saying, "tell you what, give Pelosi and Hoyer their little offices back, and when Gaetz tries to boot yer ass out again next month, we'll even save your sorry ass if you can hold most of your circus act together for a round or two. But here's the deal--if you can't keep the Freak Caucus in line for even that long, om the third ballot, you and ten Republicans you bring with you vote for Hakeem on the third round. And you give us that in writing, since your rep for keeping your word is less than stellar.

He should have realized this back in January after the 3rd vote.
Rather pathetic.
Sounds like someone felt he is entitled after waiting in the wings after Boehner, Ryan, etc.
Since the time, McCarthy has joined Congress, there has been one great Speaker: Pelosi.

Kevin McCarthy voted out: first House Speaker to be ousted
McCarthy told lawmakers in the evening he would not run again for speaker, putting the gavel up for grabs. Next steps are highly uncertain with no obvious successor to lead the House Republican majority.
Now today:
McCarthy doesnt rule out returning as House speaker
Former House Speaker Kevin McCarthy wouldnt rule out a return to his speakership position Monday, telling reporters thats a decision for his conference and saying its wrong for the House to be operating without a speaker in a time of crisis.
