T-Mobile Is Forcibly Moving People on Older Plans to Some of Its Newer Ones in November
Source: CNET
T-Mobile is forcing users on its older unlimited plans to move to some of its latest options. The carrier confirmed to CNET that starting next week, notices will be sent out to T-Mobile users on its older One, Simple Choice, Magenta and Magenta 55 Plus plans alerting them that starting with their November bill cycles their respective plans will change and their monthly pricing will go up.
The notices will go out starting Oct. 17, and T-Mobile tells CNET that "there will be an increase of approximately $10 per line with the migration." A spokesperson noted that those who sign up for AutoPay can save $5 per line (on up to eight lines per account).
T-Mobile recently changed its automatic payment rules to require a linked bank account or debit card as opposed to a credit card, though with the company's troubled history of data breaches consumers may be wary of linking banking information to their accounts.

According to the leak on Reddit, customers on Simple Choice will be moved to either Magenta or Essentials Select, folks on Magenta or One will move to Go5G, and people on Magenta 55 Plus will be migrated to Go5G 55 Plus. Business users on Simple Choice Business will similarly be switched over to the carrier's Business Unlimited Advanced.

There may be a notice sent out to customers so they can Opt Out of this forced upgrade.
This would require customers to call Customer Support to prevent this.

(19,491 posts)And is virtually the same as magenta max 55.
They better not require this, that's a ridiculous price for one line.

Frock that!
I "like" that the CNET link has (for me anyway) a T-Mobile ad at the top of the window.

(4,340 posts)We have Magenta 55 plus- the customer rep said that the plan I would be switched to will be 5g go 55 plus, which is not listed on their website. She said notices will go out 10/17/23 with more details-- so we shall see.

(10,804 posts)If they break their agreement, I'm bolting.
I here Visible is the Month-To-Month carrier for Verizon.
They have a $25 plan per line/month with no minimums.
So I don't need to have 4 lines to get that the $25 rate.
I may look into this to see how it compares to my current rate.

(4,340 posts)We have Magenta55 plus and the new plan is 90.00 more- from 170 to 261.00! two lines- one iphone is paid off, and the other is almost paid off- will probably just pay it off and look for a more affordable carrier.

(40,691 posts)They've got a lot in common with the cable and satellite television companies.
My cell phone flips open like a Star Trek communicator and I use it in a similar fashion so I never have to worry about data limits.
My wife and I don't have cable or satellite television either.
The internet is of course a necessity in the modern world. It's required for our work but we are fortunate to live in a place where multiple internet service providers compete with one another. Interactions with their customer service people can be quite sociable.
I have friends and family who live in places where there are only one or two options for telecommunication services. They are screwed.
For many years my wife's parents, living in a rural area, had to cope with AT&T and/or Hughes. There were no other options, take it or leave it. The customer service they got reflected that.

(108,783 posts)Where I live, we're stuck with one of those terrible cable monopoly laws. Which really sucks, because our *ONLY* choice for ISP is Spectrum and they blow. Apparently there have been efforts to overturn them, but they've gone nowhere in the courts.
And there's no competition either. It took us like 15 years before we finally caught up with the rest of the world and got cable internet. Now it's probably going to take even longer than that to get fiber. If I could switch to Google Fiber tomorrow, I'd do it faster than you could blink.
The cable monopoly laws I kind of get back when mom and pop cable companies existed. But now those are no longer a thing and they've been replaced with mega conglomerates like Spectrum and Charter.
Lack of competition is just as bad as industry consolidation. It's basically one pile of shit vs another pile of shit.

(40,691 posts)Or sometimes worse, trying to find someone who actually knows what's going on and can transfer you to someone who can fix the problem.
I've spent many hours on the phone with AT&T.
But Comcast? They can be just plain robber baron.
