Jordan Activates Right-Wing Pressure Campaign in Push to Win Speakership
Source: NY Times
Representative Jim Jordan and his allies have begun a right-wing pressure campaign against Republicans opposed to electing him speaker, working to unleash the rage of the partys base voters against any lawmaker standing in the way of his election.
Even after Mr. Jordan, the hard-right Ohio Republican, won his partys nomination for the post on Friday, he remained far short of the 217 votes he needed to win the gavel, with scores of his colleagues refusing to back him.
In efforts to close the gap, lawmakers and activists close to him have taken to social media and the airwaves to blast the Republicans they believe are blocking his path to victory and encourage voters to browbeat them into supporting Mr. Jordan.
It is an extraordinary instance of Republican-on-Republican fighting that underscores the divisions that have wrought chaos inside the party, paralyzing the House of Representatives in the process. Several of Mr. Jordans supporters have posted the phone numbers of mainstream G.O.P. lawmakers they count as holdouts, encouraging followers to flood the Capitol switchboard with calls demanding they back Mr. Jordan or face the wrath of conservative voters as they gear up for primary season.

I smell a backfire - Pervy Jim's buddies will lean too hard, maybe even make veiled threats of violence, and House GOPers will decide for sure they will not vote for Jim. Who knows, maybe yet another GOP circular firing squad..

Suggest that others with a relatively sane GOP rep to do same.

The problem might be that Jordan seemed to need a lot of votes (50?)
I'm sure Cheney and other Republicans behind the scenes are trying to counter those efforts.
It is appalling to me that Jordan even has a shot.

(6,064 posts)by the very definition that moderates are more likely to compromise to achieve moderate goals. That said the "moderate" Republicans in swing districts are not likely to be successfully primaried by ultra-conservatives given the composition of their districts.

(2,585 posts)Technically correct but realistically it is DJT that is pressure cooking all things in the way of Jordan getting speakership. Because while not impossible, theres a ray or 2 of sunlight keeping it alive still but most likely DJT will not be SotH however if Jordan gets it then it is the same difference.
The DA in Georgia just wrote Jordan telling him in no uncertain terms he was abusing his power as chair of house judicial ctm and he needs to stay in his lane.
Personally I think DA Willis should have taken a different tack and kept just throwing procedure after procedure and process after some more procedure followed by precedent as the gop/McConnell did/does effectively during PBOs 2 terms and now to drag out or string along the country and keep Jordan busy doing nothing. That way even as judiciary ctm. chair he wont have time to do real damage elsewhere.
I dont know that Jordan as SofH has anymore oversight on the actions of DA Willis to obstruct but if it does the Dems should probably engage on the side of and benefit for the country instead of what they just did in siding w/ gaetz and support the current drama that may look like a bunch of immature, idiots on the school play ground and be funny haha but it is not.
The United States of Americas government has become unfit to lead and that is the very foundation the country rests on. We sat back and watched this same discontinuity and chaos come from Russia back in the 90s and we knew that was the end of the Cold War and them but Russia didnt. I remember reading the same framing of news about Russia and that it was a hiccup and they would get back up on their feet and things would be okay
No, that didnt happen and when the fall came in a weird twist of irony the vacuum created by the very corruption and incompetence in governance that had brought Russia up too then over the breaking point was filled by an even bigger corrupt and incompetent governance on steroids, its institution's did not save it ours will not either especially if they are not used.
I highly recommend listening to G. Kirschners podcast if you dont already. Our institutions are not robust enough to absorb the chaos in 2024 as we barely did in 2020. As Kirschner asked, pleaded DOJ please take a swing at accountability. There are many gop members of the house who participated in and still to this day support the insurrection (not my choice of word, Federal Judges choice) of J6
Jordan is one of those gop members that DOJ has decided to pass on just like gaetz and his sex trafficking
. hobby, I guess now that Garland decided not to pursue.
