Democrats craft strategy to make GOP pay at the ballot box if Jim Jordan is elected speaker

Source: NBC News

Oct. 17, 2023, 7:30 AM EDT

WASHINGTON — Democrats are already crafting a strategy to use Rep. Jim Jordan, R-Ohio, as a political weapon against Republicans in the next election if he becomes the next House speaker. In a memo to House Democrats, first shared with NBC News, the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee urged party members and candidates to portray the entire GOP as beholden to radicals should Republicans hand him the speaker's gavel.

There are “no more moderates left in the Republican conference,” the DCCC said in the memo, adding that Jordan will win only if “so-called ‘moderates’” opt to “cave” and elect him. “Every Republican who votes for Jordan for Speaker is simply following Trump’s marching orders,” the memo said.

The memo comes in anticipation of a House vote as early as Tuesday afternoon to elect Jordan as speaker. He will need votes from 217 of the 221 Republicans in the House to secure a win. It’s not clear he has the votes, but numerous GOP critics have been coming around to him.

The two-page memo included a list of what the DCCC described as “key examples of Jordan’s extremism,” citing his attempts to block the certification of President Joe Biden’s victory in 2020, his noncompliance with a subpoena by the now-defunct House Jan. 6 committee, his role as a co-founder of the far-right Freedom Caucus, his opposition to bipartisan bills on immigration and his support for aggressive tactics that Democrats say caused “multiple government shutdowns.”

I.e., directed for those representing purple districts like PA-1 outside of Philly, which has the only GOP Rep. in SE PA, where the county that makes up the entirety of that District voted for Biden.

I.e., Brian Fitzpatrick. He's only there because his brother (Mike Fitzpatrick) used to have that seat and that family was "popular".

When Democrats went out on the steps of the Capitol to commemorate the anniversary of J6, Brian Fitzpatrick was the only Republican standing out there with them.

there are more than enough Republicans facing uphill battles for re-election in purple districts that will be more likely to turn blue in a Presidential election year than needed to derail Jordan's bid.

On the other hand, if Jordan does get it, it's almost a guarantee that Democrats will win bigger than expected now in 2024.

Every election, there’s 5-10% of people who could go either way. It’s for that small number of people that most political ads try and convince. Everyone else is already set on who they’re going to vote for.

“Every Republican who votes for Jordan for Speaker is simply following Trump’s marching orders."

Really? In doing that they will have tied Jordan to Trump. The unwashed rabble may not care for Jordan, but they sure as hell care about their should-be-beheaded "Dear leader..."

Jordan is his own bag of rancid sins. How about:

Every Republican who votes for Jordan for Speaker is voting for a leader of the January 6th attempted Coup d'Etat, plotted the attempt with others who are now under indictment, lied about it, said "I have nothing to hide" and then refused to honor a subpoena, only got into office because of Gerrymandering, authored ZERO legislation over his 16-YEARS in Washington, stupidly attacked an Attorney General in another state and then got his head handed to him, is accused of looking the other way on a whopping 177 cases of male-on-male sex abuse, tried to cover it up, blamed what he said "didn't" happen on the DoJ, and worse - said the story about a 10-year old rape victim that had to leave HIS state to get an abortion - was a lie. Electing Jordan makes the REPUBLICAN PARTY complicit in ALL of that!"

How is this different from a General on the battlefield laying out their attack plans or their defense to repel an attack?

It makes no sense to me.

I was raised in A Democratic pro-union family and have voted DEMOCRATIC in local, state, and national elections.

He might not get on all state ballots 14/3. He may be found guilty in all legal cases he faces. And hopefully will be in jail.

I think too many of us are paying too much attention to these early polls that show tfg ahead.

Killing Roe v Wade, in my opinion, will be the determining factor when women, including YOUNG women, vote.

They sure held the J6 attack under wraps and still are, INCLUDING Gym Jordan, who was likely one of the key planners.

He is lying about his role in planning that day.

Some know that this-coming November is an "off-year" election and the hope is that they turn out to get more Democrats in for their state/county/local officials. But honestly I think that after what happened J6, a good chunk who voted for 45 in 2020 are not going to do so again in 2024, and may just sit it out.

That is where we need to get our turnout up for next year because we know that the GOP will try to do everything they can to suppress our vote including putting out misinformation all over the internet (and that means here too) in order to "scare" and demoralize Democrats (because that is all they have left).

Seems a pretty good cost/benefit usage. GOP's infamous unity of years past is softer and mushier than play-do. Gifting them with a thousand cuts going into election season.
