A computer software developer and Media Ministry member at a Mississippi Coast church faces federal charges for distributing and possessing child pornography, court papers say. Cameron Cam Cotrill, 66, of Vancleave, is jailed without bond pending trial in January.
Federal authorities allege he had accessed 9,900 sexually explicit images of children engaged in sex acts on his computer, court records say.
After his arrest, Cotrills attorney, James Farrior, unsuccessfully appealed to a judge to grant Cotrill bond pending trial.
.......................
In character letters sent to a judge before the bail hearing, family, friends and fellow parishioners described Cotrill as a man committed to his family, faith, and community and praised him for his knowledge of Gods word. A senior adult pastor who has known Cotrill since 2022 described him as a volunteer and member of the churchs Media Ministry who consistently demonstrated conscientiousness to his ministry responsibilities here.

His knowledge of Gods word was probably just used to portray the idea that he was a good guy.

(23,045 posts)Way above my pay grade to catalog abusers. Power is almost always abused.
Very few use power or status with humility and compassion.
There's a review of "The Enchantments of Mammon"
Short version is that capitalism has taken the place of religion, and I believe that abusive "privilege" comes along with that.

Informed by cultural history and theology as well as management theory, The Enchantments of Mammon looks to nineteenth-century Romantics, whose vision of labor combined reason, creativity, and mutual aid, for salvation. In this impassioned challenge to some of our most firmly held assumptions, McCarraher argues that capitalism has hijacked our intrinsic longing for divinityand urges us to break its hold on our souls.

(1,516 posts)Hypocrites. Sometimes I wonder, how many of these churches or even politicians for that matter have secrets in their closet? Because I always find that the ones screaming loudest about certain things are the ones who have a lot to hide.

(1,516 posts)See, they use their whole "Oh, the Democrats are persecuting Christians" spiel every time they are called out, expecting the Democrats to drop it. We have to keep hammering at that without stopping.

(4,741 posts)To believe it paints him as a good guy. Because the book doesn't have a problem with all kinds of perversion, including raping children.
Parents can sell their girl children into sex slavery, and young girls are fair game as war booty, after all. And you do realize that the supposed virgin Mary was probably only 13 or 14 when she got impregnated...right And then history has all those centuries upon centuries with people of the book marrying off daughters at a young age--and not having a problem with it at all.
Modern-day disgust with, and prohibitions against, pedophilia have always derived from *SECULAR* morality alone, not religious.

(42,251 posts)Is why they have to have so many images. 9900 images is a lot. It would eat up a ton of space on one's computer.
Why would you have such a vast number? Isn't it a bit time consuming to be looking at pictures that much? Why isn't 250 images enough?
I guess I can partially answer my own question by looking at myself. I have something like 700 cookbooks. Now in your wildest dreams you would never be able to cook enough recipes from cookbooks to justify having 700. The problem is that I hear about a title and think, oh that sounds good; I'm going to cook that. Then of course because of time constraints, I never do.
So maybe it's that.
The other thing that puzzles me about these guys is how they think these scruffy beards are the way to go. I personally find them repulsive and thank Dog there aren't any around here. But not only is the beard scruffy and repulsive, it seems odd to have face hair but no head hair. It's like an upside down thing.
They must not have any sense whatsoever of how to present themselves.
Conclusion: people not dealing with reality.

(42,251 posts)that goes without saying. Even my spouse has a beard, which I personally love. But it's a neat, distinguished beard, not a scruffy mess hanging off one's face.
They always do some weird twist on the beard, like what this guy did. Take another look at the picture and you will see that he actually shaves under the lower lip (yuck, I'm getting grossed out just thinking about it). Then he lets this scruffy mess hang off his chin. In addition, there are the points to the right and left of the lips--oh, I have to stop. This is just oh so disgusting. I get really, really bad vibes off this guy and his disgusting beard.
Here's is a beard that is acceptable.

In fact, not just acceptable:
