Tlaib refuses to apologize for blaming Israel for Gaza hospital blast, attacks Biden
Source: ABC News
Democratic Rep. Rashida Tlaib refused to apologize Wednesday for saying Tuesday that Israel is to blame for the hospital explosion that day in Gaza, an accusation that sparked political backlash against Tlaib from Republicans as Israel denies fault.
Tlaib joined thousands of protesters calling for a ceasefire in Gaza during a solidarity rally hosted by the left-leaning group Jewish Voice for Peace at the National Mall. She was visibly emotional, at times pausing her speech to openly weep and criticizing lawmakers who have not backed a ceasefire resolution.
"As an American, not just as a member of the United States Congress, I am ashamed. I am ashamed that they're saying, 'not yet. Maybe next week.' ... How many more have to die?" Tlaib said.
She also addressed the backlash, applauding attendees for the "courage it's taken to speak up."

(7,671 posts)Except her lies that Israel is to blame, and now shes attacking President Biden for his support of Israel against Hamas terrorists? President Biden is probably thinking with friends like this, who needs enemies.

(7,671 posts)made her statement. At least I didn't think so. I think the Palestinians have legitimate complaints against the Israel occupation and mis-treatment in the West Bank. That is not to say she supports HAMAS.
Just because you don't support Israel's actions over the last 70 years does not make you evil. In fact I think it is an accepted fact that their occupation of the West Bank are illegal.
I personally think Netanyahu is a right-wing extremist. That does not make me anti-semitic.

(4,392 posts)I agree with you that there are legitimate grievances. That doesn't mean it's right to blame them for things that aren't true.
There is some uncertainty, and I don't blame Omar for initially coming out as she did and then walking it back when the facts emerge, any more than I blame all the people who came out after Oklahoma City pinning it on Muslims and then walking that back.

(17,992 posts)Netanyahu was nervous as a cat when he and Biden spoke This gave him a chance to change the subject from his corruption trying to change the Judicial system to CHA. His instand reaction was to wipe out Gaza, telling people they had to leave and to wipe out a whole population. Blinken and Biden put a stop to that, warning him not to over react.
The only thing Israel people are guilty of is to keep putting him back in office. He is a criminal, just like Trump. He ignored intelligence that warned him.

And after video emerged showing that the hospital wasn't even hit, just the parking lot, while she was talking about destroyed buildings.

(7,730 posts)and now she knows it was false information. If she does not apologize, in my eyes, she's as disengenuous and dishonest as a Republican. No integrity. I will no longer support her.

(7,671 posts)Otherwise she is just expressing her frustration which I can understand.
As far as objective truth on anything government related - I question it. Especially knowing how many false statements that have been previously made by our intelligence agencies - example - Iraq and Vietnam and who knows how many more.
There are no winners in war and I am quite sure this will be the case also.

(10,874 posts)Pictures of the site show such a small crater that there is no way IDF air dropped ordnance caused it. A actual 500lb or bigger bomb would have blown all those cars over and away and left a 5 to 10 foot wide crater at least 5ft deep. Instead we have a small indent in the asphalt and some fire damage from the Islamic Jihad rocket that malfunctioned, which about 30% of them do.
BBC quotes from the hospital strike:
Another doctor told the BBC that 80% of the hospital had been taken out of service and estimated that 1,000 people had been killed or injured.
The health ministry in Gaza said 500 people had been killed and hundreds more were feared trapped under the rubble.
What rubble? What damage to the hospital, a few blown out windows? And I really doubt 1,000 people were crammed into that parking lot & I really doubt Hamas managed to cart away 500 bodies that fast and then cleaned up all the blood stains.

The crater is that little tiny thing to the left of the guy in blue
Beastly Boy
(9,482 posts)then illustrating that NY Times doesn't seem to know what they are talking about, and on that basis you are backing the notion that Biden will have to apologize for saying HIS evidence points to Hamas?
Got it.

(7,188 posts)Tlaib tweet broken down:
A. "Israel just bombed the Baptist Hospital killing 500 Palestinians (doctors, children, patients) just like that."
At best, this statement is in dispute. At the time Tlaib sent her tweet, she accepted the Palestine statements on the bomber, and the number of casualties. As a member of Congress, she was wrong to just accept the statement without waiting for more information on who bombed the hospital and the number of casualties.
Last Saturday, did Tlaib tweet the equivalent about the Hamas attack? Or did she wait to hear what happened and who was to blame?
B. "@POTUS this is what happens when you refuse to facilitate a ceasefire & help de-escalate."
On what planet is Tlaib on? Biden has done nothing but work to try to keep the situation from escalating. Fundamentally dishonest.
C. "Your war and destruction only approach has opened my eyes and many Palestinian Americans and Muslims Americans like me. We will remember where you stood."
YOUR war? YOUR destruction? That's just gross. Disgusting.

(18,788 posts)Hamas and Islamic Jihad have been supplied the M302 rocket by Iran. It has a 200 km range and can reach all but the extreme northern and southern ends of Israel.
They are working on the Ayyash250 which will have and estimated range of 250 km and cover all of Israel. It does not yet appear they have used this rocket.
The Qassam rocket, the most common rocket, has a 12 km range. If it was indeed Islamic Jihad, the most likely rocket would be the Iranian Fajr 3 or locally produced S-40, both having 40-45 km range.
The distance from the launch point to the parking lot was no more than 500m.

(35,359 posts)but if Tlaib posted her tweet here she'd very likely be in danger of being banned for attacking a (D) elected representative.
I think she's not following the evidence. But if there are evil people and good people, and something evil happens, who d'ya blame? Oh, wait--the evil people.
Esp. when your d$/dt depends on the "good people"--those like yourself (that has a wide range of ambiguity, by the way).
(I wondered for a long time if "Tlaib" < "Talib" and it almost certainly doesn't. It almost certainly is a diminutive and that little wiggle room is *not* an excuse for saying, 'Ah, so it can easily mean ..." because it *cannot* "easily" come from 'طالب' which I was when I was in 1st yr Arabic. "Tlaib" whatever it's Anglicized or colloquial Arabic pronunciation is still obviously a diminutive = 'a little ___" like 'Kuwait' is a diminutive. 'Kuwait' < "camp". In Tlaib's case, 'tlaib' < طلب "to request, demand and = طلب صغير". Know little to know Arabic? Great! It's a human language. Human up! it's got a small abjab, smaller than English's alphabet, and basic 3-month grammar is enough for this post.)
